I think leftists thought that trying to scare folks about Trump would get folks to vote for Kamala because, as Jarod says, fear can work for a short period. Comparing him to "Hitler" and calling him "Fascist" and all that was them just hoping that the 100 days to election cycle electioneering would be short enough that folks could not see past their tactic.

Did you by chance visit Mariana in late 1981? If you did, you know more about it than I do. By the time I got there, I had been through enough small southern towns to understand that I was not welcome. I didn't even have to stop for gas in Mariana, just passing through heading for points east and south.
The cop was my first adult encounter with law enforcement east of Texas, and it was a bit menacing. All smiles and thinly veiled threats.
