The one Republican Senate candidate willing to call out Donald Trump

Few Republicans are willing to say a negative word about President Donald Trump.

John James — a rising star in the GOP who last year was floated to be Trump's ambassador to the United Nations, and is now waging an uphill campaign for Senate in Michigan — is taking a different approach.

During a video conference with black community leaders last week, James was asked whether he disagreed with Trump on anything given the president’s support of his candidacy.

“Plenty, plenty of issues,” James responded. “Everything from cutting Great Lakes funding to ‘s---hole countries’ to speaking ill of the dead," apparently referring to Trump's disparagement of the late Sen. John McCain. "I mean, where do you want to start?”

His answers are probably a little more critical of Trump when talking to black leaders.

We'll see if he is still rising in a month....

trump is to weak & can't handle criticism, loyalty is absolute or not @ all, there is no in-between.....

Rump will have to tread lightly on this one. Ridiculing a black man wont play well during an election cycle.

It will w/ his base.. For some that will be a plus..

I just can't see trump letting anything go by, just to petty, vile & vindictive..

Guno called Niki Haley an Indian Uncle Tom. Now he has a real live black Republican and keeps his mouth shut?! What gives?

He subscribes to the (racist) premise that any minority who is a Republican is an Uncle Tom (or equivalent for their race)

We'll see. Bet if he gets elected he hops right up and joins the good old boys on the TrumpCo bandwagon.

lol......... He has been reelect 3 times....:)

I had another shot for the road, I was pretty buzzed by the time I got home (that shot was like four w/ a hint of coke or pepsi..

If my reading is correct it looks like Michigan has generally always had Democratic Senators over the past 40 years or so. Since we have a number of Michigan people on this board does James have any better of a chance to win that previous Republican Senatorial candidates?

It is 50-50. We just got through with the mess of Snyder , a Red.This guy is just an example of repubs who will be sprinting away from Trump on the road to November. Trump is a disaster that is a gift to the Dems in the election.
