first, James lost in 2018 against Debbie Stabinaw.....52% to 48%......
second, he is the first black Republican candidate for senate in Michigan.....actually I think he's the first black senate candidate in Michigan from either party.......
third, this is Peters first bid for re-election......he won in 2014 when Levin retired, beating a white woman 54-46%......

I think he has a better chance against Peters than he did against Stabinaw who was a four term incumbent.......also, black vote turn out in 2018 was even lower than it was in 2016.....

so, will blacks in Michigan cross party lines to vote for a black candidate and will blacks go to the polls in 2020.......that is the key......he needs to add an additional 3% to his tally.......not an insurmountable barrier......by the way, early in 2018 Stabinaw lead James in the polls by 36%......right now RCP has Peters leading James by 6.8% average......

I don't blame voters for leaving the Republican Party. But politicians, people in congress, they can actually change the party.

No one in that party that stood up to the beast is still around.. Romney didn't even get there until the 2018 election~the lone man in the party.. Once he no longer has the power that'll change, even after his death they'll blame & savage him, & prob rightly so...

It's funny, on one hand anyone who is or has ever voted Republican is a racist according to many of you. But now there are actually "good Republicans"?

in 2018 Ottawa County voted for James over Stabenaw

John James REP 82,109 62.5%
Debbie Stabenow DEM 46,994 35.8%

Trump won the county with 61.3%......

Many of me? I definitely never said anyone who ever voted Republican is racist.
Even with Trump, his voters aren't all racists, they're just ok with him using racism to win.

Romney is a good Republican in that he took a stand against Fascism. That doesn't mean I agree with him on everything, or that I think he never acts immoral, but he does care about Democracy and has a conscience.

I definitely think after the Boomers are gone, every Republican who stood with Trump is going to be on TV crying about how hard they fought against the orange beast, about how they suffered in silence and prayed every day for guidance, and how now it's time other Republicans stand up for what's right. It's going to be super cringe.
But this will only happen if we're able to hold on to our Democracy long enough for the Boomers to die. There's a real chance that won't happen and we'll end up with a Dictatorship.

So yeah, we can't just wait until Trump no longer has power. We need Republicans to stand up to him now.

Well hopefully once he is gone, barr, pompus etc the system, the checks & balances will be resilient & he/they can be washed down into to sewer or swept into the dust bin of history.......

The world is going to change a lot over the next five +/- years, not for the best for the USA I am afraid..

It is sad that many of the things other generations paid for & left for us, we left to crumble & took tax breaks & watched the rich fleece our coffers & follow the money overseas ..

I was never a big Obama fan, but I can't help but feel bad for him. He fixed the economy after Bush destroyed it, then Trump destroyed it again in less than four years.

I was not either...... I voted for him 1st time but I regretted it before he got into the white house.. Once he started making his picks it became clear the old boss was now the new boss, we got fooled again.......

Much the way I treat trump now~is how I treated him then........

W/Obama, & to a lesser extent trump I wish to 1.) hold them accountable & 2.) strive for more~more for the ppl, not wallstreet, the 1% or 2%..

The odds of a few crumbs falling off the table were obviously much higher w/ Obama than a selfish ego SOB like trump but thus far he hasn't started any wars so that is a +

This is one of the reasons Trump is so bad. Obama was an alright president. Not great, but alright. But now, because of Trump, presidents like Obama seem great. Even Bush seems like he wasn't that bad. Trump is dragging the standards down so low. If Kanye West becomes president, I honestly won't be surprised at all.

True, compared to trump even butchers like andrew jackson don't look so bad.......

Each person, just like each president can really only do the best they can w/ what they have to work w/....... IMHO Obama could have done more as far as healthCare & I pushed for more, & I was certainly complaining about his wars. Always a mixed bag..

I don't think anyone, no president should have the power they have, especially to make war, or their non-war wars.........
