PETER HITCHENS: Would you REALLY prefer an unending war in Europe?

Yep- something along those lines. Except it was Truman that applied the brakes.
 
The British Empire was pretty much toast after WW1, and the Soviets did most of the work in defeating the NAZI's, I suspect that Hitchens is wrong here.

He is on my grapevine, but he is not right about everything.

I am not expert enough to speak on this but I have been told recently on my grapevine that NATO was never a defensive alliance as advertised.....the goal was always that once built and strong it would go on the offensive against the Soviets. That since the early 90's it has been supremely offensive against the Russians is evidence that this is true.
 
I have also been told that the Brits racist rabid hate of the Russians dates back to at least the 1830's.
 
The Duran has been talking about the fury of the West at Putins 2007 speech in Munich, which in 2008 was followed by a "Fuck You!" expansion of NATO, followed by the 2014 CIA overthrow of the Ukrainian government and the 2014 sham on the part of the West Mince Agreement and then massive remaking and building of the Ukrainian military into the second most powerful NATO military in Europe behind Turkey, which was built to go after the Russians speaking areas of Ukraine, and then after that Russia.

In their telling 2008 was the last major chance to avoid the Imperial Empires Debacle in Ukraine....by 2008 the Russians were pretty sure of what was coming.
 
The Russians none the less spent over a decade trying to avoid the military conflict through diplomacy....the Americans and the Europeans insisted...and here we are....NATO has been humiliated......NATO is on life support....Europe is in collapse.
 
The Brits racist rabid hate of the Russians was about India and the areas around India if memory serves....Alastair Crooke told the story but I dont completely remember it.
 
Its worth noting that the chatter on my grapevine is that the Kursk Debacle that has killed over 60K NATO fighters.....the last of the of the best of the "Ukrainian" force ....the mission to grab a nuclear plant and hold it for ransom while threatening to use it in terrorism..... was a British plan.....the Americans did not create it....they only signed off on it.
