There was a range of reaction that could have happened in response to the FCC telling them to stop the gaslighting. ABC chose to burn that house down. They could have had him go out on the next show and simply correct that record in the monologue of that show, they could have doubled down and gaslit more and faced the consequences, they could have ran an apology at the end of the show... they were the ones that went full on into "indefinite cancel".

FCC: Do something, guy is lying.
ABC: (looks at belly button, decides to act) Cancel it!

Exactly, the government is enforcing what messages can be shared on television.

Kimmel did not even say anything bad about Kirk.

It’s not like you, but you are turning a blind eye to government overreach.

Had a Democrat done this you would be up in arms.

You act as if you ignored that they had options, that me pointing out that ABC chose to cancel over a massive range of responses, one of which could have been telling the FCC to shove it.

I will ask you where were you when cancels were coming down the pipe because folks talked about the "covid jab" in other than reverent tones? You know, back in the day when the message from the left was "First Amendment has consequences"...

You think that it’s OK for the FCC to threaten a media outlet because they do not like the story?

Sure, they could’ve told the FCC to shove it, and they could’ve lost their license for doing that.

Clear violation of free speech that’s a crystal clear violation of speech.

ABC should not be threatened to decide between doing at the easy way or the hard way from a huge government.

And why should Kimmel have to "correct the record" at all? He's a comedian, not a news anchor, and has no obligation to "say the news correctly". No, this was an act of fascists in the trump administration silencing speech they don't like and ABC capitulating.

I think you thought that it was okay when Covid Jabs were the topic for government to bear down on folks. That your moral high ground is a trench.

Again, ABC chose to react the way they did when there is a massive range that could have happened.

They could have had Kimmel go out and correct his lie, they could have apologized for the lie, they could have told the FCC to kiss their a$$3s, but they chose to burn that house down. The company made this choice, not the FCC.

My understanding is people like Carson and Leno was more about broad jokes and funny one liners. They made fun of whoever was in office but it was more about the humor than any partisanship.

Jon Stewart wasn't late night comedy but he changed things and influenced those who followed him.

That led into Kimmel, Colbert, Meyers et al. who spend much more time on politics and are more openly liberal in that regard.

So politics wasn't absent in the past, it just wasn't as partisan or central to the shows.

This is true, however, the government managing the message is a clear violation of the first amendment. It is a very dangerous president.

The king is now able to punish messages they go against him or offend him.
