It isn't the entire picture, but he absolutely fell foul of serving the public interest with one siding lying that increases hate, hostility, and ignorance.
if the FCC have power to police bad words on the public airwaves, how can they not have power to police people feeding hate with lies?
The FCC is mandated by Congress to monitor the content of individuals and individual businesses that use the airwaves to conduct their business.
They are doing their job, legally, when they do so.
In the past, the FCC did not allow age inappropriate content until after 10 PM.
It’s rich that the left who used government over and over to force the media to censor right wing groups are now crying censorship.

Kimmel’s ratings, the fact that his affiliates were not going to carry his show or the reminder by the FCC Commissioner that the lie that Kimmel told was not in the public interest because the lie was dangerous.
The financial factor would carry the most weight, IMO.
If Kimmel was growing his audience making his bosses a wheelbarrow full of cash he would still be on the air. Instead in the since 2014 he has lost half of his audience. His bosses fired him because he was slowly killing late night TV. Gutfield on a CABLE channel has more than three times as many people watch nightly. Kimmel earns 16 million a year and Gutfiekd earns 7 million a year.

His trying to gaslight his audience and the fact that he was costing his boss money made it an easy choice to cut the umbilical cord. NextStar has 265 stations they are in the business of getting people to watch them they did not want to piss half of their audience off. If Kill was bringing them in big bucks they would have krpt him. His wasn't earning money he was losing money and running his audience off.
