The war happened before the party switch. During this time, Democrats wanted small government and states' rights, while the Republicans were the crazy Liberals who wanted to trample on states' rights and completely change tradition.

Such as, conservatives and liberals support policies that enable upward mobility, stronger communities, better schools, etc. Progressives have illiberal "solutions," and rhetoric built upon lies (like liberal markets are bad, etc.).

How about you un-write the entire past, present, and future of the Democratic Party. Then the problem of bigotry in America would be enormously diminished.

How is the GOP going from conservative to conservative a switch?

We're still the party of big business, constitutionalism, liberty, traditional marriage (literally found in our first two platforms of 1854 and 1856), etc. Lincoln famously declared that "You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift." What happened to that core philosophy during the non-existent switch? Meanwhile, Dems still hate America, love corruption, and are a general force for bad.

The GOP was against states' rights and wanted to end segregation. And while both parties are for big government, the Democrats used to at least fight for local government, which kept the federal government smaller.
The DNC was the party that wanted the federal government to mind its own business and they fought primarily for white people, even after the Civil War. All of this was part of the switch.

I don't believe you think Democrats hate America. You're just trying to say something outrageous to change the subject.

Republicans were/are for federalism, and Democrats were for state's rights. The reason for this will not shock you when you realize that there's no such thing as state's rights. The 10th Amendment actually references the powers of the states. Governments and officials at all levels have powers inherent in their particular office. As with all other things, Democrats liked the term state's rights because it allowed the to selectively apply them depending upon self-interest (not, for example, when it came to the unconstitutional Fugitive Slave Law).

Unsurprisingly, some of the earliest unconstitutional doctrines, such as nullification, were championed by the Democratic Party. It still hates America. Who else would wage an unnecessary war of secession against America, and in the next century, willingly play the part of Useful Idiots for the USSR?

Then when Goldwater ran for president in an attempt to maintain segregation, the parties switched positions on this. Democrats became the federalists and Republicans started fighting for states' rights.
Now it is true that today's Republicans don't fight for states' rights as much as they used to, but they still do far more than the Democrats.
