do you have proof they based 'no terrorism' on the fact he is white? because they have claimed whites are responsible for domestic terrorism in the past.

In a sense, we gun lovers are a victim of lunatic crimes like this one. There will no doubt be pleas for more legislative controls on guns. There will be calls for gun bans or serious restrictions. The 65 million, law abiding gun owners will be suspect and may be forced to endure more restrictions.

Now this is no where near the pain and suffering that those in CO are experiencing. I am not making any sort of comparison. But there are those who will use the tragedy to further their anti-gun agendas. That is not paranoia. It is expectation based on past experiences.

When somebody in my family had a breakdown I simply went and got their gun and took it to my house. I'll give it back if they ever get better.

However I would, at the very least, attempt to contact authorities and warn them of a danger to others. At that point I have done the very least that I could do by passing the buck.

I did this very thing when my brother went through a divorce. Knowing his temperament and the stress he was under I asked him for his guns and he willingly gave them to me. I kept them at my place for about 6 months. I doubt to this day that anything would have happened if I hadn't taken the guns but I was going to be as sure as I could at the time.

When my step-son lived with us for a while, we locked up the guns tighter. He has some mental issues, and we were taking no chances. It is called responsible parenting.

Well, after that guy killed all those people in Arizona last year, the one who shot Gabby Giffords, and I saw his picture, I showed it to my mom to see if I was crazy. But she had the same sick feeling. So this person is someone I know, but I did not report him. He has guns and he is mentally ill, but that is only my opinion. He has never been diagnosed. What am I supposed to do call the police and say hey this guy he has guns and when he smiles it is the same eerie smile as the guy who shot Giffords and he has some really wild political conspiracy theories and you can find him at...no. You can't do that Damo. You can only intervene once a threat is made. Like, oh I am going do to this, or i am going to do that. It is very difficult. I wish we took mental illness more serious in this country. Other countries do. I think it is easier to reach out there.

Well that is your brother. This person would not give them up willingly. What would you do if STY was your brother, call him up and tell him your coming to get his guns? I mean, think about it. It can be very difficult knowing what to do.

Without knowing the specifics of this case and the son-mother relationship I think we've all known people with a screw loose where you probably wouldn't expect them to do anything bad but if they did you wouldn't be all that shocked either.

Of course. I didn't post this to be accusatory in any way...just for an account similar to what Damo illustrated. I agree with you, it can be/is difficult.

Yes. I contend that we would rather just not think about what someone is capable of when we know they are a little "off." So we put such stuff to the backs of our minds.
