The stupidization of American government

Even assuming that the Democrats raised taxes back in January (which they didn't), the Republicans got larger spending cuts in the 2011 Budget Control Act such that the ratio of revenue increases to spending cuts enacted since the Republicans decided to hold the American economy hostage in exchange for increasing the debt ceiling alreay heavily favors the spending cuts that Republicans want. Having a cuts only deal to avoid the sequester would have made the ratio even more disproportionate.

The above is the type of kool aid drinking buffoons that the idiots in DC love. Dung loves to pretend that taxes weren't increased. So all of you that have felt that 2% increase in your social security withholding over what was held last year... that isn't an increase. All those that earned in excess of $450k... nope... that increase over last year isn't really an increase because the increase was going to happen anyway. For those earning under $450k, you all got a 'cut' in Dungs world, because it technically went up for a day before going back to where it was in 2012. So enjoy all that extra money from your cuts.

Hilarious. I've never said that taxes did not increase. I've said that Republicans didn't agree to tax increases and that Democrats didn't increase taxes in January.

The librul mind is an amazing thing. Only there can these two things exist.

Going "back" to the Clinton rates isn't really a tax increase. Remember that one?

Cutting the growth of spending is really an "unfair spending cut".

It really wouldn't have been that hard to make the cuts & raise the revenues needed to avoid this past week's disaster. Tip O'Neil & Reagan would have done this in their sleep. It was all kinds of different in the '80's and prior to that; those were the days when the "base" took a backseat to compromise when it came to the good of the people as a whole.

True. That said, they didn't have to deal with the 24/7 news cycle where every phrase uttered was publicly dissected.

Now, it's only about the base, 24x7. Obama & Boehner & the rest would rather posture and get high marks from their respective stalwarts for "holding their ground" than actually fix a problem.

I think the above is part of it. The other part in my opinion is that they are in over their heads and don't know what to do.

For this, I blame Rush Limbaugh (and subsequently every idiot talk radio & cable pundit that followed him). He is relentless about the evils of "compromise", and how traitorous those who engage in it are. All to a chorus of "ditto's".

Yeah, idiots like him have certainly done far more harm than good. They have helped demonize the 'other' party to the point that polarization just keeps getting worse.

We reward this behavior, and get the gov't we deserve as a result.

too true

True, if only every person were like Hissyfit Matthews who is so meek and mild

The budget goes up every year. Do you know why?

first of all, we haven't had a "budget" for the last four years.....second, spending has gone up by around 9% a year for the last four years, which is considerably higher than inflation, because of the first of all.....we haven't had a "budget" for the last four years....in the absence of a budget funds available for spending automatically go up.....now we both know why.....

so now, for the third time....why is anyone going to lose their job when the government still has 7% more to spend than they did last year.....

Because there will be arbitrary cuts to programs that will necessitate layoffs. Duh.

Stop hijacking my thread with your poorly reasoned hackery. This is not an "it's the GOP's fault" or "this is Obama's fault" thread. It's a "it's everyone's fault" thread.

dude....the spending cuts we got for the 2011 act are the sequestration we're talking about here.....they just started last weekend......and already you want another debt ceiling increase.....what are you going to give us for this one.......reduced increases in spending starting in 2016?.......

So when did they increase the taxes Dung? Are you going to pretend that there weren't $600B in increases that passed?
