The Tangerine Turnip causes beef prices to skyrocket

Beef prices are the new egg prices. They’re soaring

First it was eggs, now it’s beef.

The last time Americans likely noticed spiking prices at the grocery store was when eggs reached record-highs. Since then, egg prices have fallen after the deadly avian flu outbreak was contained and producers built back supply.

Now, beef prices are hitting records, rising almost 9% since January, according to the Department of Agriculture, and retailing for $9.26 a pound. June’s consumer price index showed steak and ground beef prices are up 12.4% and 10.3%, respectively, over the last year.

Newsweek’s Hugh Cameron reported that “ground beef prices across the U.S. continue to reach new highs, driven by shrinking cattle herds, with looming import restrictions threatening to push costs even higher.”

“According to government data released last week, the average price of a pound of 100 percent ground beef rose to $6.12 last month, up from $5.98 in May and $5.47 in June 2024,” Cameron reported. “Experts have said this trend shows no signs of slowing, meaning there may be upward pressure on prices through 2026 and beyond.”

What a moron. The reduction in American beef herds happened before Trump. It PRAKED under Trump, and TANKED under Biden.

BTW: eggs are less then $3.oo per dozen now, which the price spike was also the fault of Bden's stupidity.

Trump fixed it.

The US beef cow herd has been significantly reducing for several years, with the current inventory being the smallest since 1961. This decline has been particularly noticeable in the last few years, with a 3.6% drop in the herd size from 2022 to 2023, according to the Iowa State Extension and Outreach. The current herd is down 3.6 million head since its peak in 2019.

Biden has actively hin dered growth in the US beef production:

WASHINGTON, DC – Following the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) requests for more information on possible new rules under the Packers and Stockyards Act on price discovery in cattle markets, Meat Institute President and CEO Julie Anna Potts today made the following statement:

“Biden’s USDA is once again attempting to assert government control over the free market to the detriment of cattle producers, packers and consumers,” said Potts. “This is not about transparency. This is about the government dictating how cattle may be bought and sold.

“Thanks to the transparency already required in these markets, we know that cattle producers have received record high prices for several years.

“When USDA says it wants to ‘enhance fairness’ in cattle markets, they mean pick winners and losers. They want to end the use of Alternative Marketing Arrangements (AMAs) and force producers and packers into the cash market. AMAs are a livestock producer-driven innovation that rewards producers who are developing value-added products by investing in their herds’ genetics and other traits, improving quality, or raising cattle using certain sustainability practices. Despite the Administration’s belief otherwise, cattle production operations are not all the same and the cattle they produce are not one-size-fits all. Moving back in time to a commodity cattle market will reduce competition, innovation, and quality, ultimately hurting the entire industry. Livestock producers ought to be rewarded for their innovation in the marketplace.

The Tangerine Turnip is responsible. Beef prices are almost 13 percent higher than they were a year ago, and the data show that prices didn't really start spiking until around March of this year.
