The Teabagger Dilemma?

They do seem to enjoy scampering off after every strawman they can dream up.

this argument is not even a strawman argument. side A. makes claim that side B came up with the word because side A says they only called themselves the tea party. side B says, oh no, we saw a sign that said (note from one alleged protester) we will tea bag you. from that, side B says, that equals --- get ready --- tea bagging.

it is not a strawman. it is a dishonest take on someone's words. first off, we don't know if the person who had the sign was even a tea party member. second, tea bag has a historical reference that refers to the boston tea party. not the modern sexual reference.

the only people to turn the tea party into a vulgar term are liberals. no one but liberals call them teabaggers. pretty sick if you ask me.

Note to all, the Tea Party movement did not begin in early 2009, which is the timeframe of the article. It was going on all summer long in 2008, which is when I first heard of it. McCain was not loved by the movement, etc.

You imagined it.

On January 24, 2009, Trevor Leach, chairman of the Young Americans for Liberty in New York State organized a "Tea Party" to protest obesity taxes proposed by New York Governor David Paterson and call for fiscal responsibility on the part of the government. ...
New York Times journalist Kate Zernike reported that leaders within the Tea Party credit Seattle blogger and conservative activist Keli Carender with organizing the first Tea Party in February 2009,
