The Unbelievers

one: I have never started a thread here regarding my beliefs or any one elses....
two: I only discuss Christianity when a) someone says something really stupid about it which needs correcting, or b) in answer to a specific question.....

you started a thread about two people in a video promoting what they believed.......if they were Christians they would have been tele-evangelists.........the parallel was unavoidable.....

and, you said something stupid about Christianity....I corrected you.....that covers one and two above.....

Science isn't something you "believe" in. It and math, unlike religion, are the two fields closest to dealing in absolute truths. So you can't just say you "believe" in science, as you say you believe in religion. Two very different fields.

Science is not a truth. It is a continual search for answers using methods to eliminate bias. History is filled with hucksters passing off bullshit as "science"

Remember it was once scientifically proven that negroes were of lesser intelligence than whites.

Science has been co opted by the left to further its agenda.

The Mann made global warming myth is a perfect example. Mann's bogus hockey stick was the basis of this fraud, has been thoroughly discredited as shoddy work but the "Warmers" are true believers.

Go back to the 70s where the "science" predicted famine due to over population? The answer then? More government and more taxes. It was all a fraud.

I agree. Science explains how the world works. Religion explains the why....or at least tries to.

You don't have to reject one and accept the other. It's a shame the early Catholic Church rejected science and killed those who tried to understand the world better as heretics and "magic users". Imagine how much further along we might be.

But I am of the opinion that the fault lies in man and his eternal quest to attain and retain power than it does with religion itself. I think anyone who commits evil in the name of God will be judged.

EDIT: just my opinion.

Science attempts to explain how the world works. Since it is man conducting scientific experiments/observations and man is inherently flawed and filled with bias and misconceptions then it only stands to reason that science is inherently flawed. Those who dogmatically cling to the belief that science is the be all end all and that we should order out lives based on the current scientific hard on of the day are no different than religious adherents in my book.

I do agree with you that science and religion are not mutually exclusive and that those who imply/claim that they are have other agendas other than a search for answers.

As I have said before, the more I have learned about science, the human anatomy and biochemistry the more I have become convinced that it is statistically an biologically impossible for evolution to be responsible for mankinds present existence. That does not mean I do not believe that evolution does not exist which is what the Darwinists would have you believe.

I'll be honest....I don't know.

There is skeletal evidence that suggest different stages of man's development....however....were they different stages of man, or different stages of ape that didn't make the evolutionary cut?

There is another possibility....that God planted the seeds and left the world grow.

“Science is wonderful, truth is wonderful, reality is wonderful,” he says. “People need to appreciate reality and not hide behind the smokescreen of superstition.”

So sayeth Thomas Jefferson and many of the Founders .. who were Diests, not Christians.

Jefferson wrote his own bible .. free of superstition and revealed religion.

The Age of Reason and Enlightenment.

We've traveled backwards.

There have been seven species of humans to walk this earth .. only one survived .. and it walked out of Africa.

The map and history of human evolution courses through your veins as we speak.

Nature is the most powerful force that humans will ever know.

Fair points, however I am going deeper than just skeletal remains which are merely one piece of our complex puzzle. For example how did the human eye evolve? How did the complex processes of glomerular filtration in the kidney evolve? How did the process of exchanging CO2 and O2 at the alveolar level evolve? How did the complex Cytochrome P450 liver enzymes responsible for making hydrophilic substances more water soluble evolve? How did the complex process of clotting factors evolve? How did basophils, neutrophils, eosinophils, and complement evolve?

My belief is there no answers to these questions in the fossil record. And those that claim that evolution can account for all of these exquisitely complex biological processes are just blowing smoke.

The eye is a common point made by those who wish to "disprove" evolution. Granted, the modern human eye is a marvelously complex organ. But within living species of the animal kingdom you can find varying degrees of complexity in eyes and eye-like structures, even down to simple organisms that have simple light sensitive organs and organelles. The eye did not have to pop into being as a complex organ, nor would such soft tissue organs be good candidates for fossilization.

these guys seem to think that just because something is scarey that it has to be false....that just isn't logical......

That's not why they're saying faith is baseless. They are saying it is baseless because it is baseless. Facts have a discernible basis in physical reality. Facts are not baseless. Faith is. Their critique of religion is that believers REPLACE a basis in physical reality with a mere relishing of mental comfort. This is how humans permit themselves to embrace the baseless.

At the end of the clip, the interviewees didn't quite get out the fact that religion hijacks the golden rule (actually the silver version is the correct one) and pretends that human morality didn't have that rule before humans invented religions containing it.

Or it was ancient aliens ;)

The eye has many design flaws if made by an all knowing G-d, I wouldn't use it as an example.

Did you ever consider that there's more than the physical? Even at a basic level?

You know! A true believer is a true believer.... whether it's religion, politics, or yes....even science.

Why must the stance of absolutism be the only way to discuss things?

what you are failing to remember is that atheism IS a religious belief. An Atheist is going to do everything thing they can in the name of their religion to be 'right'. They must have the absolute in order to justify their faith that their belief that God does not exist is correct.

I'm not the one making a claim I know how many births were prevented by condoms......I provided the number prevented by killing....

Actually if you want to play the definition game, atheism is not a religion.

And some of us don't? I wasn't just referring to them....I was also referring to Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, and Christians too.

Why can't we all just believe what we believe and allow others to do the same? All of us.
