I see. use government as an all encompassing term for governments around the world.

If at any time in the future the US became a dictatorship and abolished the rule of law then your gun might come in handy, but since the likelihood of that happening in your lifetime is statistically insignificant, you really are just talking from your arse (to use a quaint yank expression).

my personal opinion is that the US government HAS pretty much abolished the rule of law and IS a dictatorship, but very few conservatives or liberals around this country will acknowledge this. and don't you think that maybe it's 80 million gun owners in this country preventing that dictatorship from becoming a full on tyranny?
