The “well regulated militia” is shooting kids again,

”11-year-old killed, more children among injured in Cincinnati shooting”
https://nypost.com/2023/11/04/news/11-year-old-killed-children-hurt-in-cincinnati-shooting/

But, but, but Thomas, Scalia and the NRA, aka gun manufacturers, said they know the Founders wanted everyone to have a gun

When does the freedom to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness supersede that of the supposed absolute freedom to possess a gun?

2A extremism is a real problem. As long as the NRA continues to fill politicians' coffers, we are doomed.

Imagine thinking that decades of knowledge and experience of governments trying to control and confiscate the peoples arms in order to subjugate them to the kings rule, that they would continue that policy after having to fight for independence from their government that tried to take their arms.........

How about not confiscating all firearms. How about just keeping them out of the hands of mass killers? And do civilians really need AR15's?

Just did, and if you actually read the Federalist Papers and not just the NRA talking points you’d see the militia they are referring to is a State assembled militia, local gov’t, and not every Dick and Harry who owned a musket, in fact, they warned again the other

You are discomfitingly intermixing several concepts into some paranoid fear that the Gov’t is going to be knocking down your door any minute now and everyone in America should be armed to the teeth to prevent the armageddon. Understandable given your reliance on NRA, aka gun manufacturers, propaganda, what better way to sell guns

you are IGNORING the fact that that 'state assembled militia' was acquired by citizens, bringing their own weapons, or are you going to try the debunked argument that the Bill of Rights applies to individuals, except the 2nd, which refers to the people as a whole being given weapons by the government????

you are also ignoring the historical aspect of the monarchy ordering a confiscation of armaments from the populace in order to control them, yet can't explain how the founders would then create an Amendment that ONLY the government would be allowed to have arms...........It is the height of stupidity to believe that after having fought a war for independence from their government that tried to confiscate their arms.

you also continue to call them out as NRA cherry picked statements, yet they are full quotes of the founders and commentaries, ratified by the people, and refer to them as marketing techniques. Almost as if you're not intelligent enough to figure out that there are some of us who absolutely hate the NRA. I have referred to them as the Negotiate Rights Away organization.

the bottom line is that you cannot adequately overcome the amount of evidence i've provided against yours and simply tossing about 'NRA cherry picked quotes' doesn't do it.

Wrong, on two accounts, no one has ever defined “militia,” and until you can explain the intent of the prefatory clause you are going nowhere, you know comas have a purpose in the English language

then you lied about reading the papers. the militia was defined by many of the founders at different points in time.

“No free government was ever founded, or preserved its liberty, without uniting the characters of the citizen and the soldier in those destined for the defense of a free state…such are a well-regulated militia, composed of the freeholders, citizens and husbandmen, who take up arms to preserve their property, as individuals, and their rights as freedmen.”9 —Josiah Quincy II, prominent spokesman for the Boston Sons of Liberty

The prefatory clause is not a limiting factor in who the 'right' applies to, but is clearly a directive as to WHY the right belongs to the people

“A militia, when properly formed, are in fact the people themselves….[T]o preserve liberty, it is essential that the whole body of the people always possess arms, and be taught alike, especially when young, how to use them.”14

But now you want kids to stay at home so every dimwit in America can pack his weapon

right now they only have to worry about the dimwits who want to use his weapon to murder someone........they would be a hell of a lot safer if they were surrounded by those who want to use their weapons to protect them......

You kidding, if we followed the strict constructionist view you and “stone” are proclaiming we’d be a 18th Century country, even Jefferson, the model of strict constructionism, admitted such when he purchased Louisiana

Nope. I am not kidding. We'd be a strong, modern country with strong tradition. Why do you hate American tradition?

who is the NRA?

th

I meant that question in the sense of discrediting those who blame the NRA for gun violence. The NRA is over 4 MILLION members who vote. Perhaps one of the largest lobbying organizations around because of their voter power.

We are always the ones blamed for all these shootings, yet not one of us has shot anyone (unless in self defense). I guess they have to hate someone, even if it's the law abiding.

it's a leftist tactic of finding a boogeyman to blame that doesn't directly attack an individual, but makes everyone who is a member at fault.
