The world's greatest art...according to me

The old masters are wonderful.
But this is truly great art.

It certainly was a watershed intellectual achievement in human history.

I believe it can arguably be claimed that it was the first declaration by any nation which enshrined the universal principles articulated by the French enlightenment.

That, by itself, made it a declaration that all of the enlightened world at the time held in utmost regard.

As a patriot, I need to give a hat tip to a great American painter.

Winslow Homer, in my opinion, was one of the few American painters in the neo-classical and Romantic periods who could really stand toe to toe with the European master painters of the era. I actually maintain that he is thoroughly on a par with the European masters.

To me, these are the most memorable Winslow Homer paintings.

The first well regarded artist of the Italian Renaissance. I had no idea he was renowned for sculpture.

Many art historians point to this as the crowning achievement of Bellini's paintings.

Cellini was best known in his time as a goldsmith and a lover. He did what Casanova bragged about. Cellini was also known as a sculptor, painter, musician and writer. Truly an artist for all seasons.

If you read his famous autobiography he comes of as a terrible braggart but, as I once told my mother about Ali, it’s not bragging if you can actually do it.

A man of refinement and taste.
I say, cheers to you.

Please allow me to introduce myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
I've been around for a long, long year
Stole many a man's soul to waste
And I was 'round when Jesus Christ
Had his moment of doubt and pain
Made damn sure that Pilate
Washed his hands and sealed his fate
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guess my name
But what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game

Well done, Mick

My favorite Russian painter who, inexplicably seems to be largely underappreciated in the West.
