I support Sanders, I don't think a purely Danish or Swedish style Socialist government would work in the United States, but I do think we need to mix in some socialist components to our society to try to even our the troubling trend of the wealthiest families owning so much of the opportunity in our nation. There are specific things that can allow a society to become more generationally mobile between economic classes and access to high quality education is one of them. If we can allow less financially well off individuals to go to College without burdening them for 35 years of student debt that would for example, go a long way toward helping the problem. Healthcare is another one of those areas where universal access will help to allow the hard working to rise to the top of the economic ladder while the less hardworking will slip.

ANY flavor of 'socialism' is only going to further the divide between the haves and the have nots. furthermore, it will cement society in to the wealthy being the rulers and the non wealthy in to servants. anyone who believes that socialism is designed to make us all 'equal' is a fool.
See, I think just the opposite. Done correctly some socialist elements to our economic system would create more equal opportunity.
We also need to better enforce the anti-trust laws on the books.

you are missing the most important factor in all of this, which is selfish human nature. You will inevitably end up with the most self serving controllers and dictators in power who will never allow themselves to live at such a low lifestyle like everyone else is going to be subjected to.
Forget Danish or Swedish. The ultimate conclusion to Sanders' vision is Nazi Germany, the USSR, North Korea, Cuba, all the ghettos of the world. Your problem is the fact that you are a loser and you ENVY the winners. Socialism will not give you better brains, a better education, more money. Nothing but your own efforts will do that, just like it did for the wealthiest families who EARNED their wealth.
We've tried it your way for over 40 years. Government school graduates can barely read their diplomas. Your way failed.
Then quit being a fucking hypocrite and focus on the problem. The problem isn't the lenders of college tuition. The problem is the fucking price gouging colleges. If a college education was affordable, there would be no need for student loan companies. Just get the Senate to haul every expensive college dean and chancellor before a committee and grill them about price gouging like you liberals do with oil company execs every time the price of gasoline goes up five cents.
All your socialist health care ideas have done is MAKE HEALTH CARE MORE EXPENSIVE. Obamacare didn't get actual care for people. It just jacked up premiums and deductibles. It's making insurance companies even richer than they are now.
Also, the country is TWENTY TRILLION DOLLARS IN THE HOLE doing it your way. What makes you think you can SPEND MORE without jacking up that debt? And don't tell me RAISE TAXES ON THE RICH. They are already paying 80 percent of the taxes in this country.
We've had over 50 years of socialist elements in this country. There is more inequality now than ever before.
Any other bright ideas?
Here's a better idea: Hold government to the same standards that government holds business. And you'll find out who the real antitrust culprits are.
Not all of human nature is selfish. But I agree that much of it is, and that is why pure systems on both sides will not work. We require balance.

The USSR, Cuba and NK are Communist Authoritarian nations, not socialists.....
I don't honestly believe JEB Bush is selfish or Barak Obama. These men could have been wealthy and happy with no bother to their lives, but instead they have chosen to serve my state and our nation in very difficult positions.

How about we start with the Sosha Curity program.
Basically it's an annuity in the private sector. How about holding it to the same GOVERNMENT STANDARDS as any life insurance company who offers the same thing.
Let's start with the legal reserve.
(Well, that ends the argument right off the bat. Private sector insurance companies are required by law to maintain a legal reserve account to pay off claims. The government is TWENTY FUCKING TRILLION DOLLARS IN THE HOLE. )
