Sure they might improve later but I doubt that will happen for a long time. We have seen it in decline since Reagan and Trump made it worse.

Democrats had nothing to do with slavery. You're talking about the Southern Democrats. They were conservative.

McRocket does have a valid point. Parties are not stagnant and they DO change. Neither the Democrats nor Republicans are the same parties they were, say in Lincoln’s time. They have pretty much reversed roles.

Neither party is the same party as they were 20-30 years ago. It seems that we, as a country, have lost our direction. For the time being, anyway. It seemed the same way in the late 60s, as well.

All things are temporary. I think we’ll recover in time. But another Trump presidency will take us farther into the sewer. That’s the LAST thing we need.
