This is the #1 reason why I'm against the Cancel Culture; it erases history instead of building upon it. "Whitewashing" history is equally as bad. Any censorship or distortion of history is a bad thing since it violates George Santayana's most famous statement.

As for the 5 question quiz, I only got 4 out of 5 since I had no clue what percentage of the US population were slaves in 1860. I disagree with the Yankee meme that slavery caused the Civil War. Slavery didn't cause the Civil War. Secession didn't cause the Civil War. It was Lincoln's decision to invade the South and force the secessionist states back into the Union that caused the Civil War.

That's not what Guno said, but I agree that human beings enslaving other human beings isn't new, it still exists in the world and it most certainly did not begin in the United States.

Native Americans enslaved captives, regardless of skin tone. They weren't the "noble savages" that some purport them to be.

Two of the questions in that survey are too simplistic in their position.

The first is the question about slavery in all colonies. This one depends on how you define slavery because as it is asked it requires using the historian's fallacy to answer it the way the survey takers "correct" answer is given.

For example, in Massachusetts there were three allowed conditions for slavery from almost the inception of the colony:

You were captured as an enemy in declared warfare. That is, you were a POW and could be forced into labor etc. It was referred to at the time as slavery.
You were forced into slavery as a result of government action. That is, you were a criminal and your punishment was enslavement to pay back for your crime.
You were a slave brought from somewhere else by your owner. That was respecting property rights as they were understood at the time.

So, actual slavery as it was then understood wasn't permitted in this colony except under very specific and limited conditions two out of three of which were seen as normal practice across all of Europe and much of the rest of the world.

The second question that doesn't have a single answer is the one about the causes of the Civil War. Slavery was one cause, but not the only cause, and it is arguable that it was the main cause.

Not in my local district. They are taught the greatness of this country are found in the ideals of our original documents.

However, like people, this country is flawed. A government of, by and for the people is going to be flawed because people are flawed.
