This is why qualified immunity needs to go

If you go see the new Superman movie, here’s a hint: don’t believe everything you see. LOL.

Again, if there’s truth in the problem then it’s a lawsuit. Unlike you, I support letting the system work. Not just shooting up the police station and overthrowing the government because it’s not perfect.

Wrong again about the police, but I know you have a violent hatred for the Texas government and Texas law enforcement.
lawsuits are almost useless. you should know this, but that's where you and truthdetector seem to have something in common. trust in the system. foolish, at best.

three things happen in most lawsuits for police misconduct.

1. settlements, which end up with police admitting no wrongdoing and no punishment
2. judge throws out lawsuit because cops have qualified immunity or the supreme court has not identified that specific right exists, and if it does exist, it hasn't been proven to be a constant and routine violation
3. most lawsuits that actually see a jury ends up badly for victim anyway, either with a super low award, a super high award that the gov refuses to pay, or gov insurance policy pays, not costing government anything and they continue on with pattern of behavior

So what is your suggestion….aside from violently overthrowing the government?

Since the courts are complicit in the qualified immunity doctrine and the general public, like asshat, loves cops having the power to do anything, the only reasonable thing to do at this point is each state and the federal government must amend their Constitutions to prohibit the purchase or use of any insurance policy to cover lawsuits related to police misconduct or rights violations

Good luck with that. What municipality would open itself up to bankruptcy because one cop fucked up?

it would provide incentive to not hire fuck ups and bullies for police officers
So you prefer they all raise taxes to pay police more? Not a bad idea but still not a guarantee. Again, what municipality would open itself up for bankruptcy because one LEO fucked up?

In the OP, it wasn't just one LEO, it was an entire unit from the top down.

depending upon the agency, most cops make between 75k a year up to 150k a year, sometimes more. no need to pay them more.

and if the people vote in the Amendment, what can the municipality really do?

They arrested a guy in a wheelchair for an assault charge then dropped the charges after a short investigation?

How much do they pay in that town?

The law is the law.

maybe this insurance change is fine.

I'm just for the overarching idea of cops having a little extra protection when using force on behalf of the state, i mean something just a little more than the average Joe.

so a cop can't get personally sued when perfroming violence on behalf of the state; that is their job.

maybe the insurance situation is fucked.

honestly I haven't thought as much about as you guys, not actually being in the violence industry myself.
