Facebook, Twitter and other corporations are not the government and they have the right to choose what they allow, so his 1st amendment rights were not violated. Maher wasn't talking about his free speech in regards to first amendment rights though. He was talking about free speech as a principle.

Pundits, commentators, entertainers, as well as you and I can either defend the principle of free speech, or we can cheer his being silenced. I think Jones is a kook, the same as I feel about plenty of leftist personalities but I don't want to see any of them banned from those platforms.

As the saying goes... "I disapprove of what you say but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

No shit. I even said that Facebook had the right to choose the content. But the discussion wasn't about property rights and Granholm wasn't cheering Facebook exercising their property rights. She was cheering someone she disagreed with being banned and that's what Maher was taking her to task over.

The very concept of free speech has long been lost on them. They even go so far as to confuse the first amendment with the principles it is designed to protect.
