.Trump might die from a thousand cuts.
The exact aphorism I used 4 1/2 years ago when he became "in play" as a serious threat.

Just as some consider the death penalty to be some sort of deterrent, a conviction here is necessary to send a message to future trumps. It would also serve to punish him monetarily. He'd lose a number of post presidential perks, not the least of which being a $1 million/year travel stipend.I don't understand how there is any accountability even if the Senate votes to convict. However, since we know they don't have the votes there will be no conviction. Either way, accountability is only a symbolic concept.
The real accountability was the election result.
Multiple intel. agencies are investigating this fully. It would be nice to have some info re. sitting politicians before the Senate trial is over.Agreed. Too old, too crazy, poor health.
Not a lawyer, but there's a lot to be said about setting precedent. The documentation in the US Senate can be played in the trial (or plea dea) for every criminal who attacked the Capitol or participated in it's support.
It's illegal to support a terrorist organization. Everyone who sent money to any terrorist front to attack the Capitol, #StoptheSteal, etc and had reasonable knowledge of the plan can be prosecuted as a terrorist. No different than sending money to ISIS or the IRA.

There were quite a few moving parts...many of them sitting in the Senate and refusing to pay attention when House managers speak. By 'cement', I mean set in stone the facts about this heinous administration.Agreed with all except "cement" if that means "end". This isn't over yet.
Not a lawyer but from what I saw today there was a lot of premeditation to Trump's rallies including the foreknowledge of violence. That's a lot of fucking lawsuits. Trump might die from a thousand cuts.
Now there is solid groundwork for some very serious crimes. Not just for Trump, but for all in the Trump administration who had a part. There were quite a few moving parts...many of them sitting in the Senate and refusing to pay attention when House managers speak. If you're saying that there is much more to come in the civilian courts, I agree. But there are no surprises. We've known about his crimes for years, but he had Barr running interference.

This next year is going to be fascinating for sure. Now there is solid groundwork for some very serious crimes. Not just for Trump, but for all in the Trump administration who had a part.
The John Deans better start moving fast before all the best plea deals are taken.![]()

Trump tried the coup AFTER the election, so no, the accountability wasn't the election result.
The accountability will be trump never holding office again, and Trump going to jail and white supremacist groups being deemed terrorist groups and hunted accordingly.
You are going to be disappointed. Again.
Don't agree, but no big deal.
They know a lot more about Trump's ties to a transnational crime syndicate but Pelosi and Schumer are feckless and not allowing the broader hearings that we need and deserve. Flynn, Manafort and Stone are still lurking in the background.
No, denying Trump from holding public office again is a profound statement of accountability.
Then the Justice Dept should begin a criminal investigation. "Ties"are not necessarily illegal.
Which part do you disagree with? Do you think there is any chance for conviction? If so, that is overly optimistic. Some of the JPP liberals said the first trial had a chance of convicting.

I don't think that we'll have to worry about him ever holding office again, but a conviction would seal that.
