I may be reading this wrong, but IMO barring a burning desire by high school senior to pursue a course of study, I think community colleges serve to help the student in skills, while completing the required courses at lower cost.
Yes, we have technical programs. But in Mississippi most students go through academic programs, which lead up to a 4-year university, and are pretty much the same as attending the first 2 years at a university. Community College is just a way to take the first two years more cheaply.
