Time to investigate Fox News

Nice try, but you CANNOT "grey area" a painfully obvious display of what is NOT a "news service". Here's why in no uncertain terms:

I fully AGREE that it's not a news service. There's NO GRAY area involved. Not even a GREY area if you're a New England Anglophile.

Unfortunately or not, depending on your perspective, 1st Amendment free speech is NOT limited to news services.
In America, idiots are allowed to say pretty much whatever they want.
You have to prove malicious intent, and good luck with that in a court of law

Do not delude yourself into thinking that common sense applies to anything.
Common sense is a myth.

I've been saying this for Lord knows how many years when folk put forth the 1st Amendement argument.....you are guaranteed freedom of speech, but you are NOT guaranteed immunity from the consequences of said speech. That is why we have such laws against, libel, slander, inciting to riot, etc.

Like it or not, you cannot call yourself a "news service" if you are acting predominantly as a mouthpiece for one particular political party. If your local newspaper reversed itself from the OP Ed and Opinion sections being labeled as such and changed them with the NEWS section, you'd see my point immediately.

Also the FCC has guidelines for such. This is why jokers like Alex Jones NEVER identified himself as a journalist, because as you say any idiot can get an audience to say whatever they want. Drudge was NEVER a journalist, but a hack who lucked into a tidbit that game fame (or infamy, depending upon one's personal perspective).

Don't kid yourself .... one cannot BS one's self out of anything.....that's why there are lawyers.

You're still expecting a criminal conviction,
not merely a civil finding of fault,
and while one is probably deserved,
the burden of proof for a criminal conviction is astronomical.
It's not like you have a dead body or stolen goods to present as evidence.

Even demonstrating damages for a civil suit is no piece of cake.
OK, they lied--now specifically show me how you were hurt by it.

This is long over due.

They'll face no serious consequences. They'll fall back on them being a news/entertainment network. I doubt they'll actually have the pay the full 1.6 billion to Dominion. They'll settle for a lesser amount and then pay the next penalty the next time they defame someone.

Constitutional protections of a free press would make prosecution of Fox almost impossible regardless of their status as a fountain of misinformation.

If they can't be prosecuted, we need to ramp up the ridiculing.

Absolutely. In the case of the voter fraud claims, though they knew the people they were putting on the air were full of crap. They'll pay a settlement and then go on until it's time to lie again. It's hard to measure how much damage they've caused by peddling their misinformation - but that's the price we pay to have a free press in America.

With regards to the Dominion law suit and Fox News? You bet'cha! I don't expect anyone to be perp walked to jail, but a conviction of the legal ramifications within the lawsuit. Read whats available on it....interesting stuff.

Now I don't know if you're arguing just for the sake of gain saying or just being some type of devil's advocate, but your moot point assesment is not wholly accurate, as I show here. And as to your last sentence....I wasn't hurt peronsally this time. But Jan. 6th shows how people can get hurt if you have a "news service" drum beating lies to accompany and accomodate a rabble rousing public figure hell bent on corrupting a legal action and decision by the people. Lord knows what could happen if such things go uncontested and I (or you) just happen to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.

I doubt they face criminal liability, but they have certainly shed their last remaining claim to be fair and honest. The pleading we saw demonstrates clearly that they garner viewers by lying to them, and they continue to lie in order to maintain viewership. That is not news. That it is not journalism. It’s a naked money grab using ignorant and hateful rubes to enrich themselves. And the rubes STILL are not waking up. I guess the cognitive dissonance would be too much.

Sane people know they're full of shit - but they'll never lose their base of viewers no matter what. Their viewers aren't interested in the truth - only confirmation of their preconceived biases.

They may pay more. Fox Gnus would be wise to settle as quickly as possible. They have no real defense for what they said. They knew they were lying and knew the Fox viewers would buy it all. Like Alex Jones, a well-known liar paid a billion in damages and half a bill in punitive. Fox Gnus can expect that too. Punitive for a company that roasted Dominion with lies for over a year, might have a ton in punitive in their future.

Good point on Alex Jones! I hope he pays the families he harmed as much as possible before he declares bankruptcy and skates on the rest. Example: How much did O.J. actually end up paying the Goldman family?

Going off topic here; how does the Simpson case compare to this? One is about being responsible for a murder, the other is about slander.

Because criminals like O.J. and Jones will protect their own pocketbooks. They are immune to guilt. I think the comparison is fair - but - full disclosure - I just started smoking weed again.

A serious stretch, but I'll let it slide, as I remember my "contact" days from college well. ;)

According to former prosecutor Glenn Kirschner, special counsel Jack Smith should expand his investigation into the Jan. 6 insurrection by including Fox News for spreading election lies that helped incite the violence that occurred that day.

Appearing on "The Katie Phang Show," the attorney noted the text messages between high-profile Fox News hosts admitting they knew the election fraud claims were lies but spread them on-air anyway because it was helping with their ratings.

Speaking with host Phang, Kirschner stated he believes the network helped incite the riot and that the Department of Justice should open an investigation based upon the new revelations.

"These were not lies about which toothpaste will make your teeth whiter, or which floor wax will make your floors more shiny, these were lies about whether the American peoples' votes were stolen and their election rigged," he told the host.

"It's like they were packing the case with gunpowder, using these lies as a vehicle to keep the viewership, you know, engaged," he continued. "They were just waiting for Donald Trump to light that gunpowder -- which he did on January 6th and it erupted into violence."

"I think we need to challenge the federal government -- this defamation suit is important -- but what is even more important is the federal government needs to step up and address these intentional and reckless lies," he elaborated. "I would argue are reasonably likely, if not intended to, incite imminent violence. This issue has got to be grabbed onto and shaken and addressed."

Tyme to investigate your anus!

Time to investigate the 2020 election. Why has that not been done yet? I tell ya why, because Democrats cheated and they fucking know it!

Trump tried to investigate the 2016 election to find fraud. Unfortunately, contrary to some things he's said, he doesn't always hire "the best people".

They botched it pretty bad. He should have used the FEC and a special committee.

So many people in America think this is turning into a Banana Republic it's not funny.

When Democrats cheat votes, that's not Democracy. That's election fraud.

Do tell me more about how a man that can't fill 1/2 of a high school gymnasium with supporters got the most votes in America ever.

I tell ya wut: It wasn't by American citizens legitimately voting for him. :nono:

Joe Biden couldn't win Class President legitimately.

Hell, I almost won Class President and I was a write in! I had 3/4 of the school (which is bigger than any Biden Rally) doing MY dance all at once!

Holding up signs for me and everything!

Ah, the good old days. :sigh:

I didn't ask for that, but boy did I get it!

I came in 3rd and didn't even campaign! :tongout:

Your héros at Fox News never for a minute believed the election was stolen, and now they are about to pay the price, for their never ending lies. It should only happen as well to you and the management of this site.

I'm not playing devil's advocate but merely being pessimistic.
I would love to see Fox hit hard, partly just because it stands as a monument to American tacky taste, much like reality TV.
