Liquor in America is usually 40% to 50% alcohol. There are a few brands that have higher content than that, but those are mainly used by people who just want to get fucking drunk and don't care about taste.

Maybe you're talking about liqueur? That's what we call stuff with about 20% alcohol content.

I think you call liquers (eg Drambuie) cordials? A cordial here is a concentrate non-alcoholic drink that you dilute with water. Jim Beam and Jack are very popular here now, but I can't go near bourbo now, everything else I'm fine with but bourbon takes me back to that night many years ago.....I'm still trying to forget it :D
