Topspin! you SOB! Getting rich off our backs again!

Because right now all forms of alt energy are only about 1% of the total. And they are a bunch of start up companies that have capital but not a lot of earnings yet as the technologies are all developing. If crude goes way down and takes gasoline with it then there goes peoples incentives to by biodiesel, hybrids, solar panels for their roofs and a bunch of the companies will go belly up. It happened with electric cars and solar about 10 years ago though I must admit to not indepth knowledge of the alternates back then.

Okay, I see your point but I was thinking of eliminating gasoline all together. :p

One more thing you did not mention: even with the capital alt energy providers simply are not geared up for such an event.

gas will not be eliminated in my lifetime, but I'm old at 46. Maybe in yours.
Not sure what your point is on alt engery not geared up. They are fledgling little companies like baby birds trying to leave the nest.

Topspin,

I'm only joking. Also, I'm only somewhere around a year younger than you.

My point was that they are not ready and not capable of taking the demand that would be required if we lost gasoline as a source.

This is one area where the Government needs to step in.. investing in the infrastructure that will create the convenience for the General Public to switch to alternative forms of energy. You can call it an R&D investment. Raise tax credits ..and other forms of incentives. It worked in the 80's when Companies were offered enterprise zone tax credits to get into the Hi Tech arena, that helped to shape what we know as the Industrial Park Complex.
