"The House Democratic Caucus spent more than $500,000 in taxpayer money over the past five years for its annual retreats at resorts in Pennsylvania and Virginia.

On Thursday, Democrats will head to the Kingsmill Resort and Spa in historic Williamsburg, Va., for the three-day planning powwow. The resort boasts multiple championship golf courses, a full-service spa and six restaurants. "

And they blast companies for doing this stuff, but they have no problem doing it.
Honestly, the Dems are making the Repubs look financially responsible with the even worse increases in spending they have come out with.

Keep trying Dano, after bush it will take some doing to top the Dems on spending.

Remember much of this bailout stuff is due to republican tactics.
Not all by any means both parties deserve blame, but it was primarially republican ideologies.

The highest Repub deficit was still less than a half trillion, the Dems deficit will be WELL over a trillion or more than double.
How did Repubs cause a bailout to be wanted? They spent like crazy even on infrastructure (remember the bloated transportation bill?) and now Dems idea of change and "fixing" it is to spend YET more?

I don't get it, I think you've been honest enough to admit that you don't either.

Remember what your former VP said, Deficit spending is not bad.

So you are down with that. I'd at least expect you to say they are way above all the stuff, they are there for serious issues.

The economy is swirling the drain and you fucking knuckleheads want to get upset about Democratic lawmakers spending about $100,000 per year on retreats?

We're fucked. Proper. All because the recklessness of the past eight years of an unmitigated disaster that was the Bush Administration. And now that the Democrats are left to clean up the mess we get this horseshit.

Unbelievable.

Yeah I agree the law shouldn't provide money for "major parties" conventions and retreats. Question Dano, did the Rebutlickans reject their money for their retreats and conventions?

I was watching a piece on this this morning that said only a portion of that was paid for by taxpayer money. I had a child emergency so could not hear how much was tax payer funded, but it was not the entire amount. Also, Dano your thread title is misleading, it makes it sound like THIS retreat is costing half a million bucks when the retreats have typically cost 100k per for the last 5 years. But I am sure that was just an oversight on your part.

He said its not bad politically and pointed at Reagan's popularity. Doesn't mean its a good thing.
Well I remember that when Reagan was president you righties moved the goal and said that the Deficit was ok because it was only x% of the GDP.

I'm not familiar with that one way or the other but either way it doesn't take away from what Cheney's point was which was Reagan was popular even though there were big deficits so deficits don't hurt you. Again, I'm not saying that's right just that's the point Cheney was making when he made the above referenced comment.

Edit: This was said during the Bush administration so he was looking back and using Reagan as an example. I'm not sure how what % of the GDP the deficit was is relevent to Cheney's comment.

Bottom line.... it was both parties screwing us for the past 40+ years that led to this mess. There is no reason for them to spend one dime on 'retreats' during an economic meltdown. They make plenty of money. They can pay for their spa days themselves.
