One of the main reasons recruitment is down is the left is applying their social agenda to the military.
Most young people are tolerant when it comes to LGTBs that does not mean they want to sleep and shower with people who could possibly be looking at them sexually.

In a mostly male fighting force, Homosexuality creates inequality.

For heteros, in many situations there are few potential sexual partners available.

Such Inequality can hamper unit cohesion.

You are ignoring human nature. People in certain situations will percieve a threat whether one exist or not.
As to the thread transexuals cannot openly serve in the military at this time.

I don't understand the transsexual phenomenon either.
I just don't lose sleep over it.
Maybe I just regard it as somebody else's problem.
