Troop pullout in Afghanistan set for next summer

Obama doesn't believe in the withdrawl, he knows he loses his base without it. That and the last of the stimulus is his life vest.

Troop pullout in Afghanistan set for next summer

WASHINGTON – The Obama administration reaffirmed Sunday that it will begin pulling U.S. troops out of Afghanistan next summer, despite reservations among top generals that absolute deadlines are a mistake.

way to listen to the generals

We have civilian leadership of the military for a reason. It is not an accident that the Generals don't get to make these decisions.

no shit sherlock....but he campaigned on a platform of listening to the generals

further....he can still make the decision to withdraw, however, he doesn't have to have a firm date, that is all the generals want, because it SAVES LIVES....but i guess you don't give a shit about people's lives....anything to defend your messiah

Uh, troll all you want, junior, but if you want to sit at the adult table you'll have to grow up a bit first. Lobbing grenades doesn't get you there.

yurt is right, so i will babble nonsense and throw out ad homs instead of discussing the matter

like i said, you don't give a shit about lives, you just proved it again with this lame post

Now the Taliban and their cohorts need only hunker down for thirteen and a half months...

imho, i think they could escalate matters knowing the US has a "firm" commitment to leave...firm commitments are a mistake, those with boots on the ground know this, the mistake is that it has a higher potential for death and violence....they aren't disputing the withdrawal, rather the grossly negligent firm commitment over a year away

I don't believe any commitment in war is firm if circumstances change, as you suggest could happen. Any escalation, in my estimation, could lead to a change of plans. When was the last time a politician kept his or her word and not change their position based on the prevailing winds of public opinion?

true...but i wouldn't want to give any fodder to our enemies and take any chance, no matter how small, of putting lives at risk....

it was stupid for obama to announce this

what is truly screwed up about the MSM is that this was buried in the middle of the article

At least 34 U.S. troops have died in Afghanistan this month, making June among the deadliest months of the war.

Agreed. It would be much cooler if we pulled out all at once in the middle of the night with no announcement. Afghanistan would wake up and say, "WTF?!"

Whatever, Yurtsie. It's like we've been transported back to 2004 and questioning the patriotism of people you disagree with politically is all the rage among people of your ilk. And your have the gumption to accuse me of throwing out ad homs?

Grow up, junior.

i never questioned your patriotism you dishonest hack....you can be a patriot and not give a shit about lives...it makes you a lousy patriot...one can love the USofA and still be a racist, murderer, etc....

you are pathetic...you never actually discuss anything that makes obama look bad, if obama looks bad, you virtually always resort to nothing but ad homs....

the generals don't like obama's statement, it is a mistake....why...because it puts lives at risk. go ahead and lie about me and what i said, i will focus on lives, not apologist bullshit

What's un-American about not caring about people's lives in other countries? Seems to me it was an American way established by our Founding Fathers (Washington, Adams, Jefferson), and only first challenged by Wilson...

Imagine if Eisenhower had said after June 6, 1944 that the Allies would withdraw from continental Europe by Christmas of 1944, because that was all the talk, home by Christmas. The Germans would have dug in, fought a defensive war and we would have left, leaving the Germans to continue with their onslaught of Germany. War is a motherfucker, men and women die in war. Civilians die in war. It is the nature of the beast. You don't tell the world you are leaving a war zone by date certain. It's bad form and gives your enemy a date certain on a calendar that they have to wait it out for. I have no doubt, that if the media outlets and the internet existed in 1942, we would not have fought the war in Europe or Japan to our fullest and we would have left unsuccessful.

Typical lawyer.... always fucking up the facts to fit the story he wants to tell....

Please... enlighten us as to how the Germans would continue with their onslaught of Germany.

now that the smart ass comment is out of the way... I agree... it is bloody stupid to set a firm date for the reasons you stated. I also think we would have lost WWII had the media acted the way it does today. Hell, we probably would have been forced into submission after Pearl.

Vietnam was the first war of the media. In my opinion we fought it with one hand tied behind our backs. If you are going to fight.... fight to win. If you are not going to fight to win... don't put our men and women in harms way.

So you didn't support bush's announcement in 2008 of a troop drawdown because it threatened lives? Good for you.

"The reduction will begin with a Marine Corps battalion set to leave this fall from Anbar Province, once the center of the anti-government insurgency. …

Mr. Bush announced his decision on future force levels in Iraq, which includes withdrawing a full brigade of combat troops in the first few weeks of 2009, in an address on Tuesday to the National Defense University here. The text of his speech was released late Monday by the White House."
