Trump boasts about making up information during meeting with Canada’s Trudeau

At a fundraiser on Wednesday, Donald Trump boasted that he made up information about a trade deficit he believes the United States has with Canada during a meeting with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

The Washington Post reports that Trump made the comments during a 30-minute speech in Missouri, as he “heaped praise on himself” and blasted U.S. allies he thinks are taking advantage of the country.

“Trudeau came to see me—he’s a good guy, Justin,” Trump said at the fundraiser, according to audio reviewed by the Post. “He said, ‘No, no, we have no trade deficit with you, we have none. Donald, please.’”

“Nice guy, good-looking guy, comes in—‘Donald, we have no trade deficit,’” Trump continued. “He’s very proud because everybody else, you know, we’re getting killed.”

Trump bragged to GOP donors that he told “proud” Trudeau, “wrong, Justin, you do.”

“I didn’t even know,” Trump admitted. “… I had no idea. I just said, ‘You’re wrong.’ You know why? Because we’re so stupid.”
Trump told fundraiser attendees he replied, “You’re wrong, Justin.”

“[Trudeau] said, ‘Nope, we have no trade deficit,’” Trump insisted. “I said, ‘Well, in that case I feel differently.’”

“I said, ‘but I don’t believe it,’” Trump continued. “I sent one of our guys out, his guy, my guy, they went out, I said, ‘check because I can’t believe it.’”

‘Well, sir, you’re actually right,” Trump insisted “his guy, my guy” informed him. “We have no deficit but that doesn’t include energy and timber … And when you do, we lose $17 billion a year.’ It’s incredible.”

As the Post reports, the United States actually runs a trade surplus with Canada, according to the trade representative office.

I love watching the FAKE media thrash about trying to deal with Trumps joking. I do wish they had done some fact checking with the last moron who infested the White House. But when you are in bed with an agenda based ideology built on lies, you don't fact check your own.

Let me ask everyone this question and not just you; how would a country with resources the size of Canada's and a population that would fit inside the State of California, have a trade deficit with the USA?

It just isn't possible. Canada is the largest exporter of oil to the United States, that alone is a massive trade deficit for the USA.

When you read these FAKE news stories, the FAKE news stories attempt to argue that, yes, when it comes to goods we have a deficit with Canada, but when you have "trade services" there is a surplus.

But even that doesn't make any sense to anyone with a brain. It would be nearly impossible for Canada to require that much services from the USA when they export so much of their own to us.

That's why the countries with which the United States has the largest trade deficits in goods are not always its most important trading partners. Some nations export a lot without importing much. But the top five trading partners also have the largest deficits. Please note that the Census provides trade data by country for goods only, not services.

China - $636 billion traded with a $375 billion deficit.
Canada - $582 billion traded with an $18 billion deficit.
Mexico - $557 billion traded with a $71 billion deficit.
Japan - $204 billion traded with a $69 billion deficit.
Germany - $171 billion traded with a $65 billion deficit.

Neither Obama nor Clinton would have lied, neither of them would have been ill prepared for a meeting, and neither of them would be proud of their lies. Now lets focus on Trump
 
Services are an unreliable data point in that they are statistically derived whereas goods are physical and counted.

There is also a huge explanation as to how Canadian estimates are arrived at and they include US re-exports from third countries and freight charges.

FACT; we import more goods from Canada than we export to Canada. The ONLY way Canada can make a claim there is not an imbalance is thorough statistical manipulations.
