When I was back in undergrad I worked on the editorial staff of the university newspaper. Once I supported a person for a student office but that person was a personal friend of mine.

Even though this was a nothing uni newspaper that didn't matter to anyone I was taken aside by the professor who was in charge of the newspaper editorial content and he taught me that even the APPEARANCE of impropriety is bad enough.

When I got a job working in industry every year we have to take training in how to comport ourselves. What we can and can't accept, but the KEY point is always the "headline test". Whether something is technically illegal or not, the appearance of illegality is enough to cause you to reconsider.

These are life lessons one learns in becoming an ADULT.

If you can't see this as a horrible conflict of interest and/or a likely bribe from a terrorist supporting nation then you and I have vastly different levels of education.

I do not see it that way... I have a Bachelor's degree from Ohio State... And I taught for thirty years...You? PS: We were never required to take anti-corruption training...;)
 
Trump did not even pretend to divest this term. He is in the M.E., making money for himself and Trump International. The question is will future presidents honor divestiture rules? Has Trump made us into a Kleptocracy?
