In 1989, trump had a net worth of $3 billion. If he had taken that money, and invested it in an S&P 500 indexed fund, he would have $48 billion. He would also have been able to live a lavish lifestyle on the dividend themselves, so not having to touch his investment.

Instead, trump is worth $2.4 billion. in 32 years, he lost money.

Anybody with a severe mental illness, like Trump, doesn't make a good businessman, because this type person lacks the ability to be objective, and lacks the ability to make sound decisions. Case and point, Trump has gone through 6 bankruptcies, which doesn't say much for his business prowess.
 
The asshole went bankrupt about 6 times. He lost 3 casinos. How bad a businessman do you have to be to do that? The house always wins, unless it is trump's house. Then it goes bankrupt.
He could not get a loan from an American bank. So he went to Russia and suddenly had enough money to buy all kinds of property and golf courses, for cash. Daffy called himself the king of debt, bragging about how he used other people's money. Now he was doing that?
Golf courses and hotels are good ways to launder money.
Trump said he was worth about 10 billion and he did not need to raise money in politics. I get an email from him or his kid every day begging for it promising a 5 to 1 ratio for every buck I give. Does anyone believe that?

Customers, Investors, tax payers, contractors, bankers, lawyers, etc.

He has left a trail of financial wreckage. Even gotten some to break the law and become incarcerated.

And then there are the ungrateful dead.

Every other modern President has put their money in a blind trust, except trump who insisted he needed to know what foreigners were paying him to make presidential decisions. So that is the opposite of your claim.

trump blew most of his money before running for president. he ran for president to try to make money back.
