I shall rephrase my original point:
Taking pleasure in a bad day for others is not the makings of a particularly good day.
That's like saying person (a) can only be happy if person (b) has a negative experience.
Ideally, person (a) should be able to enjoy life without seeing someone else who is not.

May I suggest using a different premise?
Try imagining that alien agendas are being subtly and unobtrusively imposed on US and are being injected into every part of our environment and society.
And the only thing stopping the bad guys from succeeding are American patriots.
For the bad guys, any day they can hurt, confuse, harm, injure, remove, convert or eliminate any patriot, is a good day to them.
But you zeroed in on semantics yourself.
