RFK worked for the Department of Justice and was lead counsel to several important Senate Comities. Certainty more qualifications than trumps nominee for DOJ.

I'll share my LA story. When I was living there (this was 15 years ago) I got jumped. Police said it was a case of mistaken identity but four guys seemed to not like how my face looked because they beat me to a pulp. So I was in the hospital for awhile.
One day I'm coming out of the doctor's office with a bandage on my nose and standing in front of the building. This lady looks at me and asks "who's your doctor?" I didn't understand so I said "excuse me?" and she said "who's your doctor?"
I then realized she was looking at the bandage on my nose and assumed I had had a nose job. She clearly had had work done herself.
That's L.A. for you.

One does not have to have tried a case to be AG, in fact Id guess most have not done so. It is an administrative government job. You need to know how it works and how the inside of the government operates.
