Donald J. Trump said Tuesday morning that he received a letter from the Justice Department saying that he is the target of the long running investigation into efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

The former president wrote on social media that Special Counsel Jack Smith — the prosecutor leading the federal investigation — sent a letter on Sunday.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Former President Donald Trump said Tuesday he has received a letter informing him he is a target of the Justice Department’s investigation into efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election, an indication he could soon be charged by U.S. prosecutors.

New federal charges, on top of existing state and federal counts in New York and Florida and a separate election-interference investigation nearing conclusion in Georgia, would add to the list of legal problems for Trump as he pursues the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said Donald Trump “should have come out more forcefully” to stop the storming of the US Capitol on 6 January, but said the former president’s actions did not amount to criminal behavior.

DeSantis, speaking at an event at South Carolina’s GOP headquarters, said:

I think it was shown how he was in the White House and didn’t do anything while things were going on. He should have come out more forcefully

The only reason he declared for the Presidency, and did so very early on, was the hope that it would keep him from the criminal indictments he is now facing.

What Trump showed is a lot of Americans seek a dictator to rule them. Trump off to jail will not change that. They will throw their crazy support in back of the next one. Perhaps they can write in Putin's name.

Not really. Fox had no impact on the left or the Patriots. It did not create insurrectionists. It exposed them and showed them there are others who seek a dictator. I had no idea that there were that many people wanting to overthrow the country. Fox was their home until even crazier sites exposed how many violent rightys seeking a dictatorship there are.
