Agreed on certainty, but I had an NDE, an experience I could never replicate. Also, there's the mystery of the Big Bang, creation itself. I will be the first to agree that, if there is an afterlife, people won't be punished for being gay, having an abortion or eating pork and shellfish.

As for reincarnation, I consider it a lateral move, not a step forward. We are individual souls with individual minds on Earth. What would be an advancement of that situation? Becoming one with others and one with God. As the Zen Master asked the NYC hot dog vendor; a desire for "one with everything". If we are one with everything, then we lose our individuality and cannot be returned as the same person any more than a rain drop into the ocean can evaporate and condense into the same raindrop at a later time.

In religions, I look for the common notes of all of them to find kernels of truth.
