It all comes back to intent. If he can show that the values came from an "independent" appraiser even if he leaned on the appraiser to give a false appraisal it might be hard to prove intent since he can claim he relied on experts and now that expert is lying to save his own skin. It isn't that uncommon for values for property tax purposes to be different from values for bank loans. The declared value of the property wouldn't really show up on his income tax returns unless he was committing some other kind of fraud linked to depreciation.

The real question here is when the property was valued, by whom, and for what purpose. If Trump was specifically appraisal shopping over a short period of time to get false appraisals depending on the purpose then intent becomes easier to show. For instance if he had it appraised at $10M to get a bank loan and then a month later argued to reduce his property taxes because the value was only $5M and there was no substantial change in the real estate market to cause the drop in value that would show intent. Of course he could argue it wasn't bank fraud because he wasn't defrauding the bank because he was defrauding the taxing authority and then he could argue that it wasn't tax fraud because he was defrauding the bank. That might create some confusion as to which crime is the one he committed so reasonable doubt comes into play.

Cohen has already explained Trump's intent. It will not be difficult to nail him. Weiselberg will give him up too. Why do Trumpys want Trump to get away with fraud and cheating?
I read that Scotland is looking into his tax evasion there too.

The courts have insiders like Cohen and perhaps Weisselberg providing intent. Trump committed financial fraud as a routine. There are plenty of witnesses and co-conspirators..

While impeachment is a political rather than a criminal process, it should be mentioned here because, if Trump were successfully convicted in the criminal justice system, it would make it far easier for him to be impeached again in the House and then, unlike last time, convicted in the Senate.

And, oddly, there’s nothing in the U.S. Constitution that says presidents can’t be impeached after leaving office. This would not be a pointless exercise in revenge with Trump but a wise prophylactic precaution. The punishment prescribed by the Constitution for impeachment and conviction includes “disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States.” In other words, an impeached and convicted Trump could never run for president again.

Personally would not trust him w/ the money......... I am sure there is a painting of him some place he is just dying to have w/out using his own money....

It's their money. If they wanna invest in an old man that will likely be dead in a year or two, bankrupted 6 times, I guess they can do so...... :dunno:

Biden may not have the will to launch any federal investigations -- unless something totally egregious comes to light after he is sworn in -- but I doubt that his administration would interfere in any state investigations.

Maybe that's why he's whipping them up with the nonsense about voter fraud? One of my friends signed up for his campaign emails. She said that unlike the (D) candidate, the frequency and urgency of the requests for donations has actually increased since the election.
