Trump's election lies are an attempted coup. Biden and other Democrats should say so.

Donald Trump is not trying to simply undermine President-elect Joe Biden's presidency, nor is he primarily trying to position himself for a 2024 presidential run, as many have suggested.

No, Trump's No. 1 goal is to overturn the results of the 2020 election. .
Nothing new. I can think of GHWB and GWB as the only two presidents whose election results were not attempted to be overturned since 1980 .
The coup against Trump started before he was inaugurated .

What you saw on Election Night from Trump and his entire “cast” was a performance, an event orchestrated to send a message to you and to Trump, himself, regarding his greatness and his singular importance.

What happens during charades like this is that Trump, just like a child playing “let’s pretend,” actually believes that he is truly the great and important man that the audience and the presidential setting imply.

Even though Trump likely wrote the entire script and cast the actors in their respective parts, he lives it out as if it were real.

For these moments as the undisputed center of attention, he is finally the adored one…a feeling he never had as an infant or young child.

He expresses his unconscious, archaic grievances against the inattentive mother and indifferent father of his childhood, tonight played by the Americans who didn’t vote for him, but this time he has a rapt audience applauding his anger and outrage and expressing its undying affection and support.

This is a grand enactment of something Trump longed for but never had at the developmentally appropriate ages.

So now, when he has the chance, he expresses the delusional and paranoid belief that Joe Biden, who is getting the attention that Trump “deserves,” is stealing the election from him.

How can it be that more people want Joe than want him? That is shatteringly inconceivable to Trump so he calls it a hoax, a fraud, a theft, a rigged election, and by golly he’ll get his followers to agree and then he’ll get the courts to agree.

A power greater than Joe Biden will restore Trump to his rightful place as the undisputed center of attention which he desperately needs to believe he is.

Sadly for us and for him we are watching a delusional man re-enact a longed-for scenario from his achingly lonely childhood and we are observing the people in the present moment who are enabling this charade by playing the parts he demands that they play.

How much of this compensatory scenario will Americans agree to co-enact if it means we have to neglect our own life and death concerns such as Covid and the climate crisis?

How can we allow ourselves to be bullied into abandoning our own health and safety so that one man gets to finally feel important?

And by the way, Trump’s unconscious, deep well of need will never be fulfilled no matter how his followers adore him and sacrifice themselves.

He leaves them stranded in the cold, waiting for buses, because he doesn’t care anything about them except that they provide him with the momentary attention and approbation that he repeatedly needs.

An actor in a play accepts the applause of his audience but never concerns himself with how they are going to get home.

On a psychological level, is Trump chronically enacting his own play and are we just his momentary, but perpetually captured audience, silently colluding by permitting the play to go on?

Is it acceptable that a man like this has the nuclear codes and the power to decide the fate of all of us, perhaps even the entire planet?

If it’s not acceptable, we must act.

We will have to contend with Trump’s reaction.

Will we, the people, the media, the Congress, the judiciary, continue to passively collude in his delusion that he was deprived of what was rightfully his?

Or will we firmly protect our democratic institutions from abuse by an angry toddler in a suit and tie?

We are fighting for a better, fairer, and brighter future for every American: rolling up our sleeves, empowering grassroots voters, and organizing everywhere to take our country back.

Democrats believe in bringing the American people together, not stoking division and distrust.

Trump has denigrated virtually every segment of American society—and in so doing, he has insulted the very idea of America itself. Healing the soul of America means facing up to the deepest inequities in our society, from structural racism to misogyny to discrimination against people with disabilities, and enacting ambitious measures to fix them.

Democrats are committed to ending discrimination on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, language, gender, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, or immigration status.

We will appoint U.S. Supreme Court justices and federal judges who look like America, are committed to the rule of law, will uphold individual civil rights and civil liberties as essential components of a free and democratic society, and will respect and enforce foundational precedents, including Brown v. Board of Education and Roe v. Wade.

Democrats are committed to restoring the full power of the Voting Rights Act and ensuring everyone can access the ballot box.

We will enforce and strengthen the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act, and will end racial and religious profiling in law enforcement.

Sounds real good brother, but almost none of that will happen unless we fight for it. Nearly half the country has no interest in what you’re talking about and they are going to continue to fight for the status quo with or without Trump.

They fight for what they believe while democrats hope for what they believe.

Rights are determined by what you can DEMAND, not by what is good, fair, equitable, or by what Jesus would do. The Rights that African Americans have in this country are because of Demand, not by being afraid of the challenges, and if we are to get the horrors of the police off our necks, literally, it will come through DEMAND, with or without the Democratic Party.

Just hoping for it gets people killed and families destroyed.

Their votes didn't count, and soon their voices will no longer be heard. There are big changes coming soon.

Trump’s words and actions have given safe harbor and encouragement to racists, anti-Semites, anti-Muslim bigots, and white supremacists.

It’s time to root out domestic terrorism in all its forms.

We will use federal law enforcement tools and resources to address domestic terrorism, and if necessary work with Congress to pass a domestic terrorism law that is consistent with the Constitutional right to free speech and civil liberties.

Democrats will ensure federal data collection and analysis is adequately funded, to better design policies to address the needs of the most vulnerable communities and make informed policy choices.

Hate speech and symbols have no home in our new America.

Democrats believe that we can only build a more just and equitable future if we honestly reckon with our history and its legacy in the present.

We support removing the Confederate battle flag and statues of Confederate leaders from public properties. We recognize Black history has too often been intentionally suppressed or excluded from our history books, and will invest in recovering, celebrating, and highlighting Black history as American history.

Democrats believe Juneteenth (June 19th) represents the end of slavery, the freedom for millions of enslaved Black Americans, and will be recognized as a federal holiday.

We believe Black lives matter, and will establish a national commission to examine the lasting economic effects of slavery, Jim Crow segregation, and racially discriminatory federal policies on income, wealth, educational, health, and employment outcomes; to pursue truth and promote racial healing; and to study reparations.

We must acknowledge that there can be no realization of the American dream without grappling with the lasting effects of slavery, and facing up to the centuries-long campaign of violence, fear, and trauma wrought upon Black Americans.

The extreme gap in household wealth and income between people of color—especially Black Americans, Latinos, Native Americans, and certain Asian American and Pacific Islander communities—is holding our country back.

Democrats are committed to improving economic mobility for people of color. We will fight to tackle inter-generational poverty and close the racial wealth gap.

No, Trump's No. 1 goal is to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

It's time for President-elect Biden and other Democratic leaders to describe his actions in the most forceful and universally understandable language possible.

And that means, in this case, calling them part of an attempted coup to illegally overthrow the Biden presidency.

Experts warn that Trump's actions are a threat to our democracy.

Italy's Benito Mussolini and Nazi Germany's Hitler amassed power through bullying.

These types of leaders treat silence or muted responses as a sign of weakness, emboldening them to push further with their authoritarian goals.

Democrats have to ask themselves how they want history to view them: as those who fought ferociously against Trump's efforts to undermine our election or as those who unintentionally appeased him with their silence, allowing him to decimate our democracy.

Democrats cannot hope that simply ignoring Trump will persuade him to give up.

His brazen attempts to defraud the American public now include pressuring local GOP elected officials to join his plot.

Even assuming Trump does vacate the White House on Jan. 20, these types of attacks could have long-term consequences, especially without clear, forceful push-back.

Countless authoritarian regimes began as democracies.

Attempts to remain in power against the will of the people are not business as usual in America — they are more akin to something seen in banana republics.

A Reuters poll released Wednesday found that only 73 percent of Americans said Biden won the election, while 52 percent of Republicans say Trump "rightfully won."

This is incredibly disturbing, and probably unprecedented.

Team Biden must also repeatedly highlight Trump's lack of credible evidence of voter fraud.

Common sense tells us that if the assertions by Trump surrogate Rudy Giuliani of a "national conspiracy" to rig the election were true, the Trump effort would have more to show for it.

It has been nearly three weeks since Election Day.

Instead, Trump's lawyers lashed out at reporters when pressed for details or data.

In fact, Giuliani essentially admitted Tuesday in federal court in Pennsylvania that there is no voter fraud, stating, "This is not a fraud case."

On Saturday night, a federal judge dismissed the Trump campaign's lawsuit in Pennsylvania, calling it a "strained legal argument without merit."

The same thing happened in Arizona, where Trump's lawyer conceded to the judge that Trump was not alleging voter fraud.

The actions of the Trump campaign in November could be considered part of a criminal conspiracy to deprive the voters of their rights.

The Hell you are you are fighting for big corporations, and selling out America to the Chicoms! Your voting base knows nothing about rolling up their sleeves andf working hard except one day a month when the Gubmint check comes, and they actually have to go cash that check!
All you have done for four years is stoke division, and distrust so shove that right up your arse.
You are for open borders, amnesty for millions of criminals and sexual perversion!
You will appoint activist Judges who judge according to feelings not the constitution!

Let me offer a glaring example. As we speak, Trump is actively trying to throw out valid ballots cast in overwhelming black and brown cities. He’s doing that right now. Where oh where is the Democratic fight against such an unamerican abomination? The fight against that comes only from progressives as they have challenged that ignorance in court, while Biden is twiddling his thumbs. You cannot defeat evil with hope and flowery words. I’m from Detroit and I can tell you that they aren’t happy with fine words and twiddling thumbs. They want to see aggressive action to protect their votes, especially given that they already don’t trust Biden, for good reason.

Truth be told, Obama wasn’t much better, but he mastered the illusion of being progressive when he decidedly was not..

Change, real change does not come from old people, it never does., and the party is controlled by old centrists who marginalize it’s younger voices. Nancy Pelosi has long ago outlived his usefulness. The best recruiter for Democratic votes this election by far was Donald Trump himself not Biden and certainly not Pelosi.

As soon as the election was over, centrist pulled out the knives and started attacking the left within the party without whom Trump would have clearly won. Progressives won an republican lite candidates lost on their do nothing platforms.

I hear you brother, and don’t take this as an attack on you or what you’re saying. It isn’t. But as long as democrats continue to attack younger and more progressive voices within the party, we will never see the. country that you envision.

Our legal teams are making sure that Trump's claims are dismissed.

Our election teams are making sure that enough votes are counted to overcome any temporary setbacks.

The Biden-Harris Administration recognizes that longstanding discrimination and unjust policies. We will equalize established pathways to power for Black Americans.

The Biden-Harris Administration will fight to expand and protect the fundamental right to vote, including by aggressively pushing back against Republican governors, legislatures, and state officials who have disenfranchised people of color, young people, low-income people, and immigrants.

The Biden-Harris Administration will restore the full powers of the Voting Rights Act and go further to roll back discriminatory policies that have been put in place in recent years to prevent people of color from voting.
