Cambridge Analytica (CA) is a privately held company that combines data mining and data analysis with strategic communication for the electoral process. It was created in 2013 as an offshoot of its British parent company SCL Group to participate in American politics.[2] In 2014, CA was involved in 44 US political races.[3] The company is partly owned by the family of Robert Mercer, an American hedge-fund manager who supports many politically conservative causes.[2][4] The firm maintains offices in New York City, Washington, DC and London.[5]
In 2015, it became known as the data analysis company working initially for Ted Cruz's presidential campaign.[4] In 2016, after Cruz's campaign had faltered, CA worked for Donald Trump's presidential campaign,[6] and on the Leave.EU-campaign for the United Kingdom's withdrawal from the European Union. CA's role and impact on those campaigns has been disputed and is the subject of ongoing criminal investigations in both countries.[7][8][9]
On March 17, 2018, The New York Times and The Observer reported on Cambridge Analytica's use of personal information acquired by an external researcher who claimed to be collecting it for academic purposes. In response, Facebook banned Cambridge Analytica from advertising on its platform.[10][11] The Guardian further reported that Facebook had known about this security breach for two years, but did nothing to protect its users.[12]

I never claimed there are no “facts”, numb skull! This crap falls into the category of facts no one cares about! I have recently been informed that to be affected by this data breach, you had to download an app(voluntarily)that overrode your privacy settings! If those are important to you, why would you allow someone to wiggle into your device and spy on you? Why would you post ANYTHING on the internet that you wouldn’t want anyone to see? So yeah, there’s got to be some privacy rules with this crazy shit, but there’s gotta be some personal responsibility too

On this particular subject, you seem surprised that some entity would data mine facebook and develop psychological profiles with that data and...what? What will they do with it? Do you think if anyone has a social media presence they have a reasonable expectation of privacy? Kinda misses the point, huh? Don't you start getting all kinds of mail from your party's candidates? What do I care if even the russians want to waste their time putting up pro-Trump propaganda on my social media when I was going to vote for him anyway? Fox is where I found out that you needed to voluntarily download that app that overrides your privacy settings. Where they gather data about you and then promise to delete that data when they're done with it. Republican or demorat, why do I care if you volunteer to do something stupid? If you have a presence on social media, you are taking a risk. Just own it. Zuckerburg is a lefty anyway, and we know how good they are at safeguarding classified information. He might have to testify on the hill about this, and I'm gonna laugh my ass off
