Tucker: Coronavirus response is being driven by politics

Nope. We are 4 percent of the earths population. There is no spin at all. I am honest and accurate.

Then are you claiming that the Chinese and Russian numbers are accurate?

LOL This is the reason I love people who "lie" with numbers by mixing rates and totals to suit their position. It's why less sophisticated people think statistics lie when, in fact, it's those using statistics that are the liars.

Yes, the US has only 4% of the global population of 7.8B. It's almost the third most populated nation on the planet behind #2 India which as 4 times the US population and #1 China also has 4 times the US population. #Behind the US are Indonesia, Pakistan, Nigeria and Brazil. All with about 2/3s of the US population of 328M.

We can do this by cases/deaths per million too. We are no better.

Cases per million, we are 10th. There are no European countries that are worse. Deaths per million, we are 11th, and will very likely pass France in the next few days, since we are seeing our deaths increase by about 3 per million every day now and France has about 1 case now for every 60-70 in the US. Sweden, Italy, Spain, UK and Denmark all had more deaths per million, but all of those countries (except for Sweden, who fucked this maybe worse than we did), all of those countries are showing decling deaths. In fact, Italy, Spain, Denmark and France all had fewer than 10 new deaths reported today. Bottom line, the only European countries that have seen more deaths per million than we have are all close to virus free. The virus is running rampant here. There is no way to spin this as anything but an utter failure on our part. As for China, it isn't worth having the discussion about the impact there.

I'm not arguing that the US has done well handling this crisis. We haven't. In fact, we fucked it up pretty badly for a lot of reasons --- only one of them being Trump.

I'm also not impugning the data from Western European nations, allied Western Pacific nations or our own. I'm pointing out that there's no reason to spin or otherwise dramatize an already severely fucked up situation.

America does very little well anymore.....in part because we are such a broken country now that we cant even come together for a pandemic.

The New Chinese Empire is licking their chops!

I agree. I think the measurements that show cases/deaths per million are far more meaningful than just counting the raw cases. And those numbers show we fucked up badly, and while the EU is now in a test, trace and isolate strategy, we are months away from that. In essence, we are starting from scratch, except that the virus is already fully in the community. What baffles me is why some are so resistant to just accept that situation and start dealing with it. Because if that doesn't happen, we are just going to repeat this thing again in a couple of months. But this time we'll be doing it during flu season, with kids in school and people indoors.

Those numbers are wonky too.....because we cant trust our elites to be transparent and honest the best numbers to go by are unexpected deaths...those numbers are hard to fuck with, and they provide a more full picture of how badly this Bug Out Of China is hurting us.

I know this is an election year, but we're also in the middle of this crisis. I have no doubt better leadership from our federal and state governments could have saved both lives and thousands of survivors pain and suffering. Tucker is an asshole, but for the Left to be equally assholish doesn't do anything except stir the pot.

The politicization of this event, mainly from the Right but from both sides, is doing our nation harm. By politicization I mean any spin, any exaggeration or any omission of fact that is beneficial to one's own political party.

Listening to him for his "laughability" is simply cheap entertainment. Sadly, we have a few JPP "numbnuts" who actually believe his foolish nonsense.

Tucker is so important now because what he says resonates with so many....as you should know.

Fair point. The public health crisis is not and should not be political. The response, sadly has been largely partisan, the difference being that the Democratic Governors have tended to more closely adhere to the recommendations of healthcare professionals. That being said, the politicization of the economic crisis by both sides is more troubling to me. Has Trumps response, and the response of some Governors and local officials made the economy worse? Yep. But that is now the hand we've been dealt, and pointing fingers doesn't get us out of it. It is, however, an absolute truth that you can't fix the economy without containing the virus, and today's numbers are very alarming. Another day with over 1K dead, and it appears a record number of cases, over 75K. If the trajectory isn't changed, it will be years before this economy recovers.

It's a screwed up situation to say the least and, no doubt, will be thoroughly studied in years to come along with the entire Trump administration.

The US economy is a lot more resilient than most people give it credit. The harm done to people will last a lifetime but the economy will be back in a year.

Why not. Are you claiming special inside knowledge? Of course, you are. The reason we have 4 percent of the earths population is we are between 3 and 5 percent. There is no fixing for any reason. Those are facts.

Not at all. In fact I've posted several times that since we're in the middle of a pandemic the true numbers may not be known until a year or more from now.

I do think the US will be on the high side of fatality rates compared to other First World powers. There are multiple reasons for this, some major ones which are not the fault of the Republicans or Trump.

Nope. It is Trump. He did nothing to stop it. He claimed it was handled as he continued to do nothing. He even rejected people using protection like masks. I know why Trump did it. He knew Corona could hurt him in November, so he figured ignoring it would help his election. Trump is not a complicated man. He miscalculated and it got much worse than he expected. So Americans got sick and died. You don't think that bothered him other than hurting his election, do you? He can not even force out some sympathetic words for the sick and dead.
No other country is close to our cases and deaths. You cannot justify it or explain it other than bad policy. Or perhaps almost no policy .
