I doubt very highly that the "Golden Rule" was radical at any time really. I believe you and I both agreed that many of the moral actions are instinctual in may animals. But humans are simply more capable of examining alternatives and need to universalize the moral edicts we are probably born with in no small way.

I think what might be radical is the step we as humans add onto it: framing the inherent moral instincts in more universal terms and provide a way to require people to go with the moral instincts as opposed to the alternatives which we are (uniquely?) capable of generating in our large brains.

The radical bit is to say it out loud. Or to frame it in a way to is more expansive than just the moral instinct to help others of our kind.

And that is my point. You are sure your beliefs are without error. Science never makes that claim and for that I find it far more honest.

There are simply TOO MANY people who claim they KNOW THE TRUTH and that truth is often jarringly different from the TRUTH that another person claims to know as perfected truth.

The problem comes in being unable to verify which version of TRUTH is correct when their source is "revelation".

I am sorely confused by that poster. They seem really knowledgeable about the topics but often seem so antagonistic to everyone. It's unfortunate because they seem to be really sharp and interesting.

Perhaps we on this forum are failing to meet their demanding standards and this is how they express their exasperation.

I don't think the poster is in a mood to discuss things of late. They seem to be really touchy on just about every subject. Either way you actually DO fulfil a niche and unmet need on the forum. These threads are always the only place where it seems that actual conversation happens and not just political insults. But then it is called "Just politics" so I guess that explains some of it.
