U.S. wealth gap between young and old is widest ever

Still higher deficits and more debt? Is that even possible without a complete collapse? :D

Sure it is. Start by eliminating loopholes for the wealthy and bring the troops home. As for jobs for the returning veterans if they can build houses and roads and infrastructure in Iraq and Afghanistan they can do that at home.

None of those addresses the deficit.

Of course it does. For one thing it would decrease the number of contractors required to repair the infrastructure.
You said earlier that "they could do that at home", indicating no reduction in budget. And you mentioned nothing about reducing the money already being spent on infrastructure here. The government has been re-paving roads everywhere to the point where asphalt prices have nearly doubled. And you want them to build more roads.

There are other infrastructure jobs besides roads. The reduction to the budget would be due to eliminating contractors. The point is offer any contracted job to veterans if they can do it or can be trained. That would reduce the budget and give the veterans a job.

Now you are insinuating that the veterans should work for free, or at a lesser rate than contractors who would do the same job. And this is somehow going to make up for the billions of waste, fraud, and bloat in the federal budget.

Why don't you just admit that you have no desire to reduce the federal deficit?

Maintain the same pay as they currently receive or let them find their own job. What could be more fair?

The point is for the government to take advantage of the unemployment situation. In everyday life when major construction projects come to an end one is able to obtain the services of construction workers at a reduced rate. If one wants to build an addition on to their home they will get a much better price obtaining contractors in the fall rather than the spring when demand is high. With low interest rates and veterans returning from Iraq now is the time for government to get projects done at reduced rates. Even if the debt increases they will save money in the long run.

It's that old saying, "Spend money to save money." For example, if ones roof is leaking it's better to take a loan and fix the roof rather than wait until one has saved enough money. By then the gyprock/wallboard will have rotted and the job would be much larger. But you knew that, didn't you?

Asphalt prices doubled because the government is paving too many roads?
Why did gas prices double, it the government driving too much?
What about food prices, is the government eating too much?

Gas prices haven't doubled, but they have gone up considerably. The reason is that petroleum is a global market, and your Democrat Party's police of "quantitative easing" (printing money with nothing to back it up) has devalued the national currency. Food prices have increased for the same reason, although a lesser amount due to local, regional and national market forces.

Why do liberals have such a hard time understanding simple economics? :D

You are still maintaining that veterans should work for a lesser rate than contractors who would do the same job. And this is somehow going to make up for the billions of waste, fraud, and bloat in the federal budget.

You mean BushII's appointee Bernake?

The veterans would have a choice. Also, I explained how the federal deficit would reduce. Please review my posts.

I did review them. That's what we've been discussing. Why don't you just admit that you have no desire to reduce the federal deficit?

You're inability to admit the obvious is what's apparent. You have no plan or desire to reduce the deficit.

I told you. If the veterans can do some of the jobs normally contracted out the government will save money and the bonus will be the veterans will have jobs. Surely you can comprehend that one sentence.
