WASHINGTON — A new poll published Thursday shows that despite President Donald Trump's recent efforts to convince Jewish American voters to support the Republican Party, his standing among U.S. Jews continues to be miserable — and is, in fact, the lowest among several religious groups examined.


The poll also surveyed Protestant, Catholic, Mormon and atheist or agnostic Americans, but Jewish respondents had the most negative view of Trump and were the least likely to identify as Republicans. In Congress, out of some 40 Jewish representatives, only two are Republicans.

Trump is making a play for the Jews. And like many Republicans before him, he seems to think that this time, American Jews will finally abandon their loyalty to the Democratic Party and join the GOP. It’s an old prediction, and it always turns out to be wrong.

But, this time, it’s more wrong than ever. If Trump wants to know why Jews won’t become Republicans, he should look in a mirror.

He’s giving it a shot, however. First, he said in response to the controversy over Rep. Ilhan Omar’s (D-Minn.) tweets about the making of U.S. policy toward Israel that Democrats “have become an anti-Jewish party.” He then told a group of Republican donors, “The Democrats hate Jewish people.”

On a superficial level, you might not blame Trump for believing this might be a moment he could win some Jewish support. That is, if like Trump, you have zero understanding of exactly why Jews support Democrats in the first place.

And they do. With the exception of black Protestants, Jews are more likely to be Democrats than any other religious group in the United States, and are more likely to self-identify as liberal than any group at all. In 2016, Hillary Clinton won 71 percent of Jewish votes according to exit polls, and in the 2018 midterms, 79 percent of Jews voted for a Democrat for Congress.

Republicans have long thought of this as some kind of delusion for which Jews could be cured — if only they realized how fervently the Republican Party supports Israel, and Benjamin Netanyahu’s government in particular. And now, Trump has added a new twist, one perfectly appropriate for him. He plainly hopes that if Jews are feeling unsettled or afraid by rising anti-Semitism, then they’ll rush to embrace his authoritarian politics, as he poses as their defender and protector.

“My sense is, I don’t see Jews giving up their liberal culture. Any attempt to define the U.S. as a Christian state generates resistance among Jews and fear of reducing their citizenship to second class. I think sentiment remains strong, but it also depends on the political parties holding their current positions on the questions of religion and state. Everything I see tells me the Democrats will adhere to the separation position, and I don’t hear anything that tells me the Republicans are going to abandon their evangelical Christian base (white goyim filth).

Really? WOMEN are the majority. Jews are 2%, blacks are 13%, Hispanics are 17% of the population. Gays are 4.5% of the population. 14% of all Americans hold student debt. Percentage in prisons is just under 1%. Downs and transgender Americans combined are less than a 1/4 of a PERCENT so they are statistically insignificant.

So unless you are talking about straight Gentile WHITE MEN who never went to college (or daddies were rich enough to pay their tuition or they could dribble or throw a football), who've never been in jail, don't have Downs and haven't had or awaiting gender reassignment--you've excluded the VAST majority of Americans, thus VOTERS. Who the fuck should we "obsess" about? In other words discuss?

PS Just so everyone knows, dumbass above no doubt thinks black or hispanic when thinking prisoner (bet on it). The white 'boys' are catching up.

It's kind of hard to make inroads in a particular community when you say that "there are fine ppl on both sides" regarding a Neo-Nazi march that resulted in murder.... especially if that community lost 6M of its kin at the hands of Nazis.

"Out of every faith community, the Jewish community has overwhelmingly rejected Trump," Soifer, executive director of the Jewish Democratic Council of America, told Hill.TV's Jamal Simmons on "What America's Thinking."

"Consistently," she added. " [In] '16 and '18, and will do so again in 2020."

Trump has pushed the narrative that he has made inroads with the Jewish community, citing his administration's strong ties with Israel and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The president successfully pushed for the U.S. Embassy in Israel to be moved from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, and in March he moved to have the U.S. officially recognize Israel's claim over the hotly contested Golan Heights.

Trump also terminated America's involvement in the Iran nuclear deal, the creation of which had been strongly opposed by Israel.

However, Soifer said that despite Trump's foreign policy moves, Republicans continue to lose support from the Jewish community in the U.S.

"It's patently false because all of the evidence has shown that, actually, the Republican Party has lost support from Jews since he's been president," Soifer said. "They should be concerned."

I fully understand what the poster was saying and I'm telling you and him, all those 'identity' groups, as you call them, are the MAJORITY of Americans. (WOMEN are the majority all by themselves). We're not supposed to talk about issues facing the majority of Americans?

You classify and separate people, whites and non whites. You don't view nonwhites as human, you are physically incapable of feeling sympathy for a nonwhite. And you want to ban and punish people for acknowledging this because it's politically inconvenient for you. Your evil.
