Understanding Socialism

No, but nor do I think we are in a recovery. There are several big shoes teetering on the edge. It will only take one dropping to send this market back down.

How many positive qtr GDP's do you need and is the official number 2 like for declines?

The economy is sliding down a razor blade. Beneath us, is a trillion-dollar debt we couldn't afford... it's a matter of time before that plays out. Nothing has been put into place, which will foster business growth and prosperity, there is no confidence that anything like this is going to come in the near future, and people continue to lose their jobs, and/or become more dissatisfied in the jobs they have. We can't sustain the level of spending currently going on! We just can't... bottom line! It is all going to collapse bigger than shit, wait and see!

We need to end the insanity of globalization zealotry.

It's fucking killing us. That's the goal i suppose.

We're bad. bad people who deserve to die.

Dixie, if we "can't afford" this debt, then why are long-term interest rates for US debt at record lows? Are investors just idiots?

Because the fed is juicing the economy with idiotic policies, and free money for their friends to hoard, so they stay on board with the "destroy america" policies.

Hey fucktard, why don't you tell us just ONE fucking thing the government has EVER taken over, which was "temporary" and eventually returned to the private sector..... just ONE fucking example of that, please????

That's because private fuking enterprise rips people off and does not give a damn about anyone but themselves. That's why governments take over essential services just like they are going to do with medical services.

When one person or a small group of investors provide a service their one and only concern is themselves. Do you see the people in charge of a government service walking away with millions of dollars in bonuses while the service is flushed down the drain?

government takeover of 'essential' services is exactly what the founders fought against. we will again.

every single day.

Like most things in economics, it is debatable and you have to pay attention to what is said. Technically a recovery 'begins' when GDP growth goes back to positive (which we have seen), yet a recovery 'has happened' once total GDP gets back to the point it was at prior the the decline (hence, back to its peak).

An example (this is a harsh example, but will illustrate my point).... NOTE: these numbers are not exact... but they are close...

In 1929 the US GDP was roughly $100b. During the first four years of the Great Depression it dropped roughly in half to $50b. In 1934-1937 there was double digit growth in GDP on average. Yet total GDP was about $90b in 1937. So despite the fact that we were 'recovering'... we had not 'recovered'. It wasn't until 1941 that our GDP got back to 1929 levels and officially 'recovered'.

Where I get uneasy is when I see a number like we did with third quarter GDP. Without the cash for clunkers, it still would have been positive, but barely so. Which is why I am hesitant to believe we are in a 'recovery'. It was buoyed by a short term stimulus fix that likely will have a detraction on future GDP numbers.

Private enterprise doesn't really rip people off. Hospitals operate under practically no profit, and health insurance profits are about 6% a year, which is remarkably low for an insurance company.

Yes, and when Apple makes an IPod their only concern is for themselves as well. But you don't care; it's for your benefit as well.

The only time the government should step in is when there's a market failure, or to provide necessities to the needy.

correct me if i'm wrong, but didn't you earlier rail against insurance company profits?

No, I can't. In order to help the needy there has to be laws enforcing the help of the needy.

It would be better to reverse the trends of globalization so people can actually have jobs, instead of encouraging dependance through handouts.

Encouraging dependance and eroding individual prosperity is not "help".

Can you understand that?

You continue to miss the point. I have $100 to give you, do you want it? Of course you would, right? Why wouldn't you? Those who are getting government assistance naturally want to continue getting it, that is a no-brainer. We are not talking about their greed! We are talking about liberal socialist nitwits like yourself, who want to give MY money to them, because you are greedy and don't want to help them with your own resources! You play on our guilt... you make us think that it's all about "helping those in need" when it's actually your way of excusing yourself from moral obligation.

Everybody helps. What is it about that, that you don't understand. Everyone who is able to pay taxes pays them into a big pot so it can be distributed to those in need.

There are no Conservative taxes and Liberal taxes. My money goes the same place as the money from everyone else.

These big pots of "everybody money" are more susceptible to misuse, graft, and corruption.

That's why statists love this idiotic line of thinking; corruption and power through other people's money is their way of life.

Encouraging dependence? You make it sound like welfare and food stamps are spoiling people.

Until and unless there are jobs people need assistance. Rail against the lack of jobs but not against helping people.
