Unity is unusable

A Windows like interface isn't ideal for Linux. I know how to use KDE and Gnome, I don't need training wheels.

It is actually very good and what's more Zorin OS is fast and just works straight out of the box. IF you prefer Gnome classic then you can reskin it in a few moments.

Yeah, I was using classic Ubuntu, Gnome 2. Gnome 3 can be installed, and it does overwrite Unity.

I thought you were using Kubuntu? I'm putting Kubuntu on my other partition.

I now have Ubuntu with Unity and Gnome 3 so that when logging in you just have to select Ubuntu or Gnome to switch the DE.

Well, I liked Ubuntu perfectly fine, so I guess just KDE4.

Watermark, have you seen the new version of Linux Mint 12? It comes with MGSE (Mint Gnome Shell Extensions) which is a desktop layer on top of Gnome 3 that makes it possible for you to use it in a traditional way. I am going to give it a try.
