The oil tanker involved in the collision, MV Stena Immaculate, was en route from Agio Theodoroi in Greece to Killingholme in the UK.

It is managed by US logistics firm Crowley and owned by Sweden's Stena Sphere which is controlled by the billionaire Olsson family.

This type of complex arrangement is quite typical in the global shipping industry.

However, unusually, this is one of just ten oil tankers enlisted in a US government programme which is designed to supply the armed forces with fuel during times of armed conflict or national emergency.

It means they can be called upon by the US military at short notice but there's no indication yet that it was being used for these purposes when this accident happened. ,

That this tanker was US flagged and was carrying jet fuel my first question is was this military fuel.....losing a whole tanker of rare military jet fuel could be a big problem for NATO.

Perhaps the navigation systems were hacked by France-based Houthi resistance groups operating against Western shipping supporting Israel.
Then again.....................perhaps not.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation, with a senior U.S. official at the White House telling gCaptain that foul play has not been ruled out.

The Tanker Security Program, established to ensure a core fleet of U.S.-based product tankers are available for the U.S. Department of Defense needs, only has ten ships enrolled. With over 7,500 oil tankers worldwide, the chances of an incident on one of the ten TSP tankers critical to Department of Defense operations and the US Navy are remarkably low.

The scarcity of U.S.-flagged tankers underscores the vulnerability of the nation’s strategic maritime assets. This was likely an accident but with global oil tanker incidents resulting in spills reduced to fewer than ten per year, the likelihood of such a catastrophic event involving a TSP vessel is alarmingly low, making this incident suspicious.?

It was daytime I think in good weather and the tanker was at anchor...if this was not a mechanical problem with the container ship....
