US railroad strike delayed

they were paying attention after watching obama bugger the rank n file UAW in favor of union mgmt.

The Revolution being pro union (as Biden constantly points out) only goes so far. THe railroads are deeply broken and this labor problem which has mostly been caused by abusive management will almost certainly make the situation worse.

BTW I reading that in the last six years management has shit-canned 1/3 of the headcount.....that is a huge problem.

Too funny!!!!! Slack jawed rubes who live in the right to work (for less) union hating red states, pontificating on unions

What It Would Take to Avoid a Rail Strike This Holiday Season

Members of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees Division (BMWED), the nation’s third-largest rail union, rejected a proposed five-year contract on Monday that would have raised wages and provided an additional paid day off for rail workers. Some workers felt it didn’t go far enough, and the union vetoed the contract by a vote of 56% to 43%. Union leaders said they pushed for 15 paid sick days, but the proposed deal included only one. Rail workers are also seeking the right to take unpaid sick days, and the deal did not address this issue, among other concerns, Union President Tony Cardwell said in a public statement on Monday.

“Railroaders are discouraged and upset with working conditions and compensation and hold their employer in low regard. Railroaders do not feel valued,” Cardwell said. “They resent the fact that management holds no regard for their quality of life, illustrated by their stubborn reluctance to provide a higher quantity of paid time off, especially for sickness.”

The demands reflect a changing industry that’s been strained by pandemic-era pressures. Rail industry giants, including BNSF, Union Pacific, Norfolk Southern and CSX, have been aggressively cutting costs and shifting operations to rely on fewer trains and fewer employees. Over the past six years, major railroads have cut nearly one-third of their workforce—roughly 45,000 jobs—forcing the remaining workers to often be on-call 24/7, according to the rail unions involved in contract discussions.

House votes to impose rail contract in step toward averting strike
The House of Representatives voted Wednesday to force a tentative labor agreement on rail companies and workers nationwide — a move to avoid a strike that would worsen already tangled supply chains ahead of the holiday season and cost the US economy billions of dollars each day.

By a bipartisan vote of 290-137, the legislators approved a bill codifying a White House-negotiated September deal that offered 115,000 members of 12 rail unions 24% raises and $5,000 in bonuses retroactive to 2020.

Workers would have to pay a larger share of their health insurance costs, but their premiums would be capped at 15% of the total cost of the insurance plan.

In a separate 221-207 vote, the House approved a resolution adding seven days of paid sick leave per year for all rail workers covered by the agreement. That vote was added to the schedule by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) at the request of pro-union Democrats uneasy with the terms of the tentative deal.

I did not see coming the extra week+ of vacation time, but otherwise this was expected. This however feels so Soviet Union with the Revolution dictating contracts via Washington.

Joe Biden blew it’: rail unions decry plan to impose deal through Congress

These fuckers have not been paying attention, the Revolution always throws overboard anyone who gets in the way. Another thing too,,,,the Revolution has handed out lots of money to unions but there is a real question about whether this is all about buying off government employees, how much they have ever cared about not government employee union members is very much in doubt.

Now we see if rail workers, who have long been straight up abused by their employers, just take it.

I suspect not.
