US school shootings double in a year to reach historic high

More and more guns. We have the highest per capita rate of gun ownership of any developed nation on earth by a wide margin. That means there are more guns laying around that can be diverted to (stolen or sold) people who wish to do harm. This is emboldened by the last couple of decades of NRA lobbying to halt any meaningful gun legislation to protect people and a rise of the type of gun owner who fetishizes these things as opposed to using them as a tool.

More people had guns at home in 1980...gun ownership has dropped big time....... dipshit

GUN OWNERSHIP IN AMERICA: 1973 TO 2021

From 1973 to 2021, the percentage of American households that reported having any guns in the home dropped by
28 percent.

During this period the percentage of adults living in households with guns hit its peak in 1980, when more than half
(53.7 percent) of Americans reported living in households with guns. By 2021, 35.2 percent of Americans reported
living in households with guns, a drop of 18.5 percentage points.

Schools in the United States are suffering an alarming rise in shootings, according to new federal data that shows the number of incidents reaching a historic peak for the second year running.

Data compiled by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) records that in 2021-22 public and private schools, spanning both elementary and secondary levels, incurred a total of 327 shootings – a record high. The incidents involved a gun being brandished and fired or a bullet hitting school property.

Yeah they have to stick to the narrative. Dont ask them to self assess the impact of their policies on America. As far as the dipshit leftists are concerned everything wrong with America is someone else's fault.

I wonder if there's a difference when comparing per capita gun ownership vs "number of households owning guns" (mathematically that should make a difference). The key is not the rate of households with guns.

My point still stands: America has the highest per capita rate of gun ownership of any developed industrialized nation on earth and we have the highest rate of gun homicides of that cohort as well.

More guns in fewer hands is still more guns. More guns = higher probability of diversion of said guns.

Switzerland has 45.7 guns per 100 residents.

Switzerland is alone in Western Europe in its attitude toward gun ownership. Swiss men, all considered part of the militia are permitted to keep their service rifles at home.

Finland is 45.3 for every 100 people.

Gun ownership in Finland is among the highest in the world, although crime rates remain among the world's lowest.

What is their murder rate? and get back to us with that info

US has 120 guns per 100 residents per the Congressional Research Service. "...as of 2009 there were roughly twice as many guns per capita in the United States as there were in 1968: more than 300 million guns in all" (SOURCE)

What if you looked at number of deaths per number of guns?

So their murder should be around half of ours

Switzerland murder/homicide rate for 2021 was 0.48

Switzerland has 45.7 guns per 100 residents. They have half the guns per capita we do, but our murder rate is 250 times more than Switzerland. Based on gun numbers it should only be twice as high

So its not guns ITS PEOPLE

Maybe but I don't see any evidence for your claim. I would be interested though.

There have been MANY studies that find that the presence of more guns correlates with higher rates of gun violence. Whether it's on an individual basis where a home with a gun has a higher probability of someone in that home being shot or killed by the gun or on a larger basis wherein more guns in society correlates with more gun violence.

The best compare for the USA is the developed nations around the world. Those that are in our cohort have vastly fewer guns and vastly fewer instances of gun violence overall.

Seems like a pretty clear picture but only if one can see past the 2A.

Ok then it should be easy for you to find one to support your claim.

"Results. Gun ownership was a significant predictor of firearm homicide rates (incidence rate ratio = 1.009; 95% confidence interval = 1.004, 1.014). This model indicated that for each percentage point increase in gun ownership, the firearm homicide rate increased by 0.9%." SOURCE
