US tomato prices could jump as soon as Monday By

CNN —
If tomato prices jump because of new tariffs on the Mexican-grown produce, restaurant owner Teresa Razo says her businesses could go bust.

“I give it three months, and then we go bankrupt,” said Teresa Razo, owner of two Argentine-Italian restaurants in Southern California.

With Crazy Trump's approval rating going south, and when consumers finally start to feel the effect of the tariffs, I sure that the shit is going to hit the fan.

And coming when I now regularly see chatter from people traveling and discovering that in much of the world food is much cheaper than it is in America and Europe.

The guys I listen to generally say to not expect these massive tariff taxes to move production to America.....it costs a lot of money to set up production in a new country and most people expect the massive tariff taxes to not last, so nobody is going to be willing to spend the money it would take....and also in many cases even with a tariff tax up to 30% it is still cheaper to import than to produce in America.

NO it will have to hit them REALLY REALLY hard in their pocketbook before they do anything, MAGAS are too stupid to see what is happening, maybe when it starts costing some of them an extra 1 or 2 hundred a week or more to just live they will wake up, but until then I can't see it happening.

I haven't talked to my good friends that own a big farm about 3 or 4 miles from MAL. they grow tomatoes down their , and up here , I bet they are really happy they will be able to hike the price they sell them for and make lots and lots of money.

  • Then she's an idiot; the overwhelming majority of our tomatoes are grown domestically.

  • United States:Fresh tomatoes are produced nationwide in the U.S., with California and Florida as the leading producers.
    • California: California is a major producer of tomatoes, including both fresh-market and processing tomatoes. They produce approximately 95% of the nation's processing tomatoes and about 33% of the nation's fresh-market tomatoes.
    • Florida:
Florida is another significant producer of fresh tomatoes, particularly from October to June, peaking in April–May and November–January.
    • Other States: Other states like Georgia, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee, and Virginia also contribute to fresh tomato production, especially during the summer months when Florida's production decreases.

It doesn't help that Florida farmers are plowing their tomatoes under because it costs too much to harvest them.

‘Can’t even afford to pick them’: Florida farmers are now plowing over perfectly good tomatoes as Trump tariff policies cause prices to plummet and workers to flee. How farmers are reacting

You expect everyone to have land to grow tomatoes?
Yes, he does.

I bought a lot of canned veggies when Trump was elected. I’m ready for the shortage. I prefer fresh, but I’m prepared.
