84% of Americans favor requiring a photo ID to vote, Gallup Poll finds

As concerns over election integrity remain a contentious issue ahead of the 2024 presidential election, a new national poll shows that most Americans support having photo identification as a requirement to vote in elections.

A Gallup Poll released Thursday shows that 84% of respondents favor requiring a photo ID, while 83% support providing proof of citizenship when registering to vote for the first time. The poll noted that voter attitudes toward these issues were similar to those seen in its July 2022 poll.

A Gallup Poll released Thursday shows that 84% of respondents favor requiring a photo ID, while 83% support providing proof of citizenship when registering to vote for the first time. The poll noted that voter attitudes toward these issues were similar to those seen in its July 2022 poll.

Thirty-six states currently request or require voters to show IDs when they go to the polls.

In July, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, which aims to ensure only American citizens vote in federal elections, with the support of only five Democrats....

Why are Democrat political against only Americans voting in elections?

Can I ask you a SERIOUS question?

If you don't believe that there's any evidence for CLIMATE CHANGE and you don't feel that it is worth the $$$$ necessary to try to fix it, why do you believe that voter ID fraud (for which there actually is NO EVIDENCE) is something you want to fix?

Help me understand which things you accept without evidence and which things you reject with evidence.

Not requiring photo ID sure would help them vote. Have I mentioned lately Democrat politicians aren't in favor of voter ID? And 84% of Americans favor voter ID.
Indeed.

Make sure the person voting is the person that is registered

I bought will call tickets for Six Flags ....guess what I had to show ID to make sure it matched the person that bought them!!!

Voter ID SOUNDS like it is something that makes sense but it isn't really needed. There's almost no evidence whatsoever of systemic voter ID fraud. But voter ID's mean that every American has to have free and easy access to such an ID. Which means that you will need to put in a LOT of money to ensure that happens (otherwise it is infringing the right to vote).

Now you are going to say "I got my ID super easy!" Well, that's because you lived close enough to a DMV and you had access to transportation to that DMV and you had all your proper documentation and you had the most important thing: TIME OFF TO GO GET YOUR ID.

A lot of poor people (which means a lot of minorities) don't have these things. Which means if you want them to have voter ID you are going to have to pay money to ensure they can get it. This will cost a lot. Probably require a tax hike.

But you and I both know you won't support that. Because at the end of the day you are being played by people with a LOT more knowledge of statistics and probability than you will ever have. They know that by demanding an item that not all people can get easily, they will surgically target minorities and defacto disenfranchise them.

I know this a lot of words and many of them are big words so you have had a problem understanding to this point, but if you have a literate friend maybe they can help explain it to you.

But at the end of the day all you need to know is YOU WANT TO FIX A NON-EXISTENT PROBLEM AND INCREASE THE COSTS FOR ALL OF US.

Illegals that hope for citizenship sure like Harris. I wonder who they would vote for?

Illegals are already voting in local elections.

The Virginia judicial ruling that illegals who have signed statements that they are not legal citizens have to be put back on the voter registration rolls is an indication that the left wants people who have no legal right to be in America, to vote.

Judge blocks Virginia from purging voter rolls of alleged noncitizens

“…However, in a memo obtained by Fox News Digital, the governor’s office called the DOJ's move an "unprecedented lawsuit" that targets the state "for appropriately enforcing a Virginia law, signed by then-Gov. Tim Kaine in 2006, that requires Virginia to remove noncitizens from the voter rolls - a process that begins when an individual themselves indicates they are a noncitizen during a DMV transaction."

The memo is penned by Richard Cullen, counselor to the governor, and says that Virginia’s process has taken place under both Republican and Democratic governors. It also argues that the 90-day quiet period is not relevant "since Virginia conducts an individualized—not systematic—review per Virginia law in order to correct registration records."

It also says the process is mandated by law and not subject to the governor’s discretion. The memo also says that individuals are notified twice of their cancelation by mail and email and that the state also offers same day voting registration if someone incorrectly indicated they were a noncitizen. Youngkin previously called the lawsuit "a desperate attempt to attack the legitimacy of the elections in the Commonwealth, the very crucible of American Democracy."

This ruling is being appealed and the Supreme Court will decide.

A 6-3 win for Virginia and America.

Your point is that people should have to show photo ID at the polls. My point is that everyone doesn't go to the polls physically to vote.
So??:?:? The issue is should they need I D TO VOTE. I don't care where they vote only if they are legally illegible TO VOTE. When my own mom got disabled she got a free non drivers photo ID and requested an absentee ballot and sent a photo copy of her ID and cast her mail in ballot. BTW she had a tremor in her right hand that significantly changed her signature. The photo ID proved it was her.
