WA's Congressional Make-Up Get's a New Look

Minister of Truth

Practically Perfect
The Dem's lost their hold over the 2nd & 3rd CD seats which were considered up for grabs. WA now leans 5-4 GOP instead of 6-3 Dem, which has been the status quo for a while.

One thing that stands out to me is that Jaime Herrara, the new Rep. Elect from the 3rd CD is kind of hot:

Lastly, I want to bring up the complete and utter failure of the 7th CD. By all measures, Jim McDermott has been the laughing-stalk of the WA Democrats on the national stage. His Dem colleagues in the House find him to be useless, stupid, and annoying, and would rather work with the more accomplished fellows such as Norm Dicks (4th CD) and Adam Smith (9th CD).

McDermott's career in politics takes him back to the days of when the US Senate contained two superstar WA Dems named Jackson and Magnuson. Also, this year, no GOP challenger faced him, so the voters had the opportunity to pick an independent liberal to represent their views and still help the DNC in terms of numbers/support. Even still, they gave Jim over 80% of the vote. Can't this district just be absorbed into the 6th, where the voters can be represented by a real Congressman in Norm Dicks?

I think so, but considering that her former boss, Cathy McMorris of the 5th CD (elected in 2004) became Cathy McMorris Rodgers within one election cycle, you might not want to get your hopes up.

Washington is one of the few states that competitively draws districts. I personally think liberal states should all redistrict Texas-style until Republicans stop the gerrymandering. But liberals are naive and believe that unilateral disarmament is capable of accomplishing something.

In MS we went from 3 Democrats - 1 Republican to 3 Republicans - 1 Democrat. However, the ratio of conservatives to liberals is still the same.
